I was watching some kids play with a 3x3x3 on a packed bus today. One of them had it most of the way but was stumped on the final 3-edge swap. Pretty impressive actually, but he just couldn't get it.

I offered to show him, but managed to flub it - I don't have moves memorized, and rely on RxR'x' to solve the cube, pretty much making it up each time - the antithesis of speed cubing. I haven't touched a cube in several months and was tired and yadda yadda excuses excuses.

So then I had to solve from scratch since I'd mangled it which took my usual 2-3 plodding but meticulous minutes, after which the back half of the bus erupted in applause. (And comments like "I always took the stickers off!".)

I made sure to comment that "I know tons of people online who can do it in 20 seconds reliably. Don't clap for me."

:)

It's funny I always make the same comment whenever I have the rare opportunity to solve one. One of these days I'll take up the speed part of the cubing and really knock peoples socks off.

the only thing I didn't like about being over a minute was people watching would lose intrest and leave or say you can't do it your just doing random moves. or if they look away they say that you have more than one cube. now that I'm faster my friends make bets. I've made like 10$ doing this at lunch.

Impressive, true. Hopefully no selfish cuber will ruin it by offering to show him the rest.
