Post subject: NOT SPEED -- non-standard solution to 4x4, helpPosted: Sun Jun 25, 2006 4:02 am

OK! so i tried to solve the 4x4 on my own. I didn't use any help, and i only really know basic methods to solve the 3x3 so it was a challenge. After making a few simple movements into patterns i have worked it down to a 50/50 chance of solving it when i get to the bottom row.

METHOD: I solve the top, then the centers, then put the sides together, then place them for row 2+3. Next i arrange the sides on the bottom, then place and rotate the corners (make sence?) now.. heres the trouble. half the time i either get one set of side peices in the right spot but backwards.... or only 2 corners are placed wrong. I can't find a pattern to swap them around without messing up the rest of the cube, and even if i do that, when i put the peices back in place the sides or corners are still messed up. HELP PLEASE!

the first picture looks like a PLL, check on http://www.cubezone.be/pll.html,
the second is a standard situation on 4x4x4, check here http://kostkarubika.pl/kursy/4x4x4/inde ... ite=level3

yeah the first time I used on the computer I actualy used the petrus method. I started at one corner made a 2x2x2. then 3x3x3. and finaly 3x3x4. I had free sides to turn I found a move that would put the final edges together.(Rd'L'dR'dl). it resembles a niklas. after I put them together I would do the rest of the cube normally and hope I didn't have a weird switch needed at the end. I did solve it this way a couple times, it takes like 45 minutes on the computer.

Bigcubes.com is always your best bet for 4x4x4s and 5x5x5s.

I came up with my own PLL parity fix, but I still need to learn the OLL parity fix myself. Although my 4x4x4 is busted untill I get 2 new centers. I may as well get a new one. It was a horrible Oddzon to begin with.
