The location I work at has been opened for 50 years. To celebrate, they're having some celebrations. They had one for the 50/60's, and today they posted the events for the 70/80's.

And they're having a Rubik's competition! The details are really lacking. All it said was there's a competition, and the competitors fastest times would win a ...... Rubik's Cube? Oh well, it should be fun. Hopefully I can bring my own cube. I'll probably also bring my Stackmat timer.

Luckily, I have no meetings scheduled during the thing, so I blocked off my calendar.

More details will be posted after June 14th.

Anyone else ever get to competitively cube at work?

no. I have never been to anything because I don't think I'm fast enough yet. my average is only 26. I'd like to be getting sub 20s for competing.

There wasn't an actual tourney. They had about a dozen 25th Anniversary cubes set out on tables and if you were able to solve one, you got to take it home. I had brough my Stackmat timer and my own speed cube. The cubes they had on the table were new out of the box and extremely stiff. Therefore, I ran back to my cubicle and got my other 3x3x3 which I used for single-handed solves. The people running the thing were impressed, but they thought I shouldn't use my own cube for some reason (it didn't matter because it wasn't a competition of speed). The DJ playing the music was impressed by the speed, and one of the people organizing the thing asked if I could go onstage. I told him I would need a table or a chair to set the cube down on. I did a 27 second solve and then the DJ told me to do a one-handed solve, so I had to go over and get my other cube, and did a 1:49 one-handed solve, which is lucky, because my one-handed varies wildly (1:20~3:00). He kept referring to me as "Ryan", and asked me some question, I responded with "My name is Bryan". After that, I sat back at the table and cubed with some other people and answered their questions.

In the end I didn't take the free cube I was entitled to, so that there would still be ones left on the table. And I believe the numbers worked out perfectly, except for me. But some people left their stands behind so I did pick up three stands, which is nice.

The photographer took plenty of pictures, so maybe I'll get some of them sometime.
