I have a couple of questions regarding the rules for recording solve times. I thought you weren't allowed to look at the cube before starting the timer, but it appears you can - how long can you 'study' the mixed cube before starting your solve (and the timer)?

Also, what is a 'lucky solve'? I can think of many cases this could fit. I'm sure it refers to simple states that are easy to solve, but what's the exact definition?

yes you get a 15 second inspection before the solve. as for lucky cases, inagine that you orient all of your last layer and then the cube is solved. basically lucky cases skip a step or two.
