I've been slowly working on improving my home-grown method using optimized solves generated with Cubie and Cubesolver. The problem that I'm having is that I can't seem to keep a lot of these moves in my head, mainly because they are for scenarios that don't show up with regularity. I find that I don't get fast until my fingers have memorized the moves, rather than my head.

So my question is, how do you guys memorize moves? Do you see a certain permutation and automatically think RUR'FUF'D? Or do you do the same move over and over and over until you don't have to even think about it anymore? Perhaps I just don't have the head for this kind of stuff...

As you have said, your fingers have to ''learn'' the algorithms, not your head, cause are the fingers who have to move the cube fast(well, to learn with fingers you might lear also with head :) )

That's why I always prefer to learn algs for the applet, not by the notation.

I like seing the alg performed and then learn it with my fingers.

That's the reason I don't have any of the Friddich's algorithms noted in any paper....... all in my head :) Or better said..... in my fingers.. heheheh

I agree, although I did learn them from written notation originally.

It's weird when someone asks you to try and do the alg slowly - sometimes it can be really hard to do even though you can easily do it at full speed.

But, like I also do the cube one handed, I am able to remind slow algs, but only sometimes.... other times.... I get really lost... heheheheheheh

for me its about muscle memory. i know some algs 2 or 3 different ways. its all about muscle memory. so when i see something i dont think.
r' u2 r u r' u r i just do the moves because i have done them so many times i know what to do and not necessarly what the moves are.

I have a similar experience with touch typing. If someone asked me to type out a specific sequence letters, I often have to think about the location of the letter, vs. just allowing the words flow from my head to the keyboard.
