I saw this eBay auction a day or two ago, but thought it was kind of funny.

To me it looks like somebody got tired of the cube and put it in the box again, but had either by purpose or accidentaly manage to take it apart.

Or is it that Rubiks actualy sold build it yourself cubes?

My guess is that the cube is broken. I have a few sealed wonderful puzzle cubes that were like this. On of the center pieces broke off of the spindle causing the cube to fall apart. This cube could have been dropped or been in severe heat or cold causing the plastic to crack and break. This is not a DIY on purpose.

That was one of the things that caught my eye.
The seller didn't use DIY but "BIY" as term...
