Here are the pictures of the 1 5x5x5 cube that I have that has now been sold. Some of you have already paid for this cube. In about a month I will be placing this order. If you would like one of these cubes, post a message here or send me a message. The price will be $24 unless there is a big change from the studio with the new cube. This is all I know about the changes to the new cube. This info came from one of the other twisty members.

Quote:
I believe that the improvements to the 5x5x5 will be modified wings of the outer edges. I have discussed this with Seventowns both in Orlando and later via e-mail. I have talked to both David Hedley Jones and technical director Steve Perrin about this. I sent Steve a diagram of the desired modification which should make the outer layers turn much nicer and make the new version hopefully quite nice out of the box

I'm a bit disappointed if they have chosen not to switch to screws. Maybe they afraid of the durability of the screws? And more awkward assembly. I don't know. Hopefully they have found other improvements too. They can only improve their sales by making it better cause it's reputed to be hard to turn.

Thank you all of you who want to pay now, but I would prefer to wait until I get closer to ordering before I collect your money. I will let you know when you need to pay. It will be around the middle of May.

The price is $24 + shipping.

I plan on sending out invoices today and/or tomorrow. I want to place this order on Monday. I have not heard back on what improvements have been made, but I was told that tooling modifications were made. Therefore it is more than just a sticker change.

I have been told that I will have details of the improvements on Tuesday the 16th. I will send out invoices then. I will then place my order at the end of that week.

Check back next week for info.

I received word back today confirming that the price of the new studio 5x5x5 cube is the same as the old one. I have sent out invoices to everyone for every outstanding puzzle that you guys (and gals) ordered from me. If you did not get an invoice, let me know a.s.a.p.

I plan on ordering tomorrow night so they have the information Friday morning.

I still haven't heard back from 2 people that I have asked about the improvements. I sent out 1 more message this morning. Hopefully they will reply and I will post information Thursday. I was told that there were tooling modifications done and that the quality would be better.

I have received an invoice from the studio and have sent a wire transfer. Hopefully they will ship by Friday and I will have them at the end of next week. I will post an update when they actually ship and when I receive and ship them out.

Thank you to all of you who paid so quickly. :)

This is all I know right now.

Quote:
I called the factory, they told me that, the rivet was changed.

I am trying to find out if any modifications were made internally or to the pieces themselves.

Good News & Bad News :? :?

The good news is that I have ordered and paid for the cubes and now today I finally have heard back from the Design Director in charge of the 5x5x5 cube. This is what he had to say.

Quote:
The tooling revisions aren't complete yet. Some small modifications have been made to ease the movement of parts but the major changes have yet to be implemented. Unfortunately due to the pressure of current orders we can't stop the production to modify the tools yet. I don't know who told you about a new rivet but this is an urban myth. When the new design has been completed and tested I'll let you know and send details of what has been changed as well as the schedule for modifying the tools.

I ordered 58 5x5x5 cubes. All but one I think is reserved and just a handfull of you have not paid yet. Originally about half of you didn't care which version of the 5x5x5 cube you wanted. It sounds like some improvements have been made but nothing major. I really don't want to be stuck with a bunch of extra cubes but if anyone wants to change, please let me know a.s.a.p.

It also sounds like the new improvements are not going to be made any time soon. I do not plan on doing another studio order this year. If so, Christmas time/January would be the earliest. This has gotten to be a bigger pain :? then I thought it would be with having to do two orders, not getting all the 3x3x3 boxes, and of course getting some damaged goods when the puzzles arrive. Unless there is large demand in the future, I probably will not do this again any time soon. I have been glad though to help all of you out.

Anyways, if anyone has any questions, let me know.

Thanks R.E.T., I don't mind doing this, however, this time there were a lot more bumps in the road than with any other special order I have done. I orignally did this for a few people and now I have done 4 special orders for studio cubes and 2 with pucks totaling in several thousands of dollars. I never thought I would personally ship around 600 rubik's cubes/pucks/Vazdaz/etc. in the past 5 years let alone all of the other auction items I have done.

If there is more demand in the future, I will do this again. 8-)

Well, to be honest, I didn't really expect them to be improved at all, I was just hoping for a wonder :D. So I'm happy they now say there's at least some little improvement. Just in case you order from the Studio again: save the name/address of the guy who wrote you that last message... sounds like the one guy who knows what's going on. And let us know when he sends you those details of the larger improvements... well, actually... can you ask him what the current small improvements are?

I certainly am just happy to be getting a 5x5x5 from "the source" and I can't thank you enough for organizing this group buy. As a newbie on this board, I'm thrilled to have found such a great bunch of people such as yourself who are willing to help out random people they've never met.

So, many thanks, Dodd. Because of you and others, and all the great information on this site, I've managed to double my puzzle collection in a pretty short time. My kids are ecstatic. Every time a package arrives, they shout, "Dad got new puzzles! Yay!" My wife, on the other hand, is a little more ambivalent about the whole thing. :-)

UPDATE

I received confirmation today that the puzzles and extra boxes were mailed out of Hungary by express mail. Monday is a holiday in the USA. They should still arrive sometime next week and I hope to mail them out next Friday. If you have not paid yet, I would appreciate it if you could do that before next Friday.

The Cubes are HERE!!!!!!!!

I finally received my 2 boxes today. I have the cubes that were ordered along with the missing 3x3x3 boxes from the order before. I will do my best to get as many out today, and the rest will go on Wednesday.

I do have a couple 3x3x3's left and maybe a master magic. I will know more tomorrow and there are still a few of you who haven't paid.

Thanks

Dodd

Sorry Guys,

I am all out of puzzles. I have just 2 3x3x3 cubes a Tangle and a Triamid from the Rubik's Studio.

I purchased only 5 extra 5x5x5 cubes & 4x4x4 cubes for anyone who came in new and missed this offer. If there is enough interest, I will place another order. With international shipping, wire fees, etc, it isn't feasable for me unless I get at least 50 puzzles. Right now it looks like I have requests for 10 so far. If anyone else wants more puzzles, let me know and I will see.
