Would it be appropriate to have a speedsolving topic? I've noticed an influx of speedcubers lately to this forum.

If people want me to add one, I certainly can. It's an easy job for me... but will all you speedcubers use it? Let me know.

I assume we're talking about a forum, not just a topic? I think I'd switch (though of course I wouldn't completely ignore the yahoo group) but I'd really really like to see some improvement here first, concerning how long it takes to load a page. That's the single thing I don't like about the twistypuzzles forum and it often bugs me a lot. Perfect solution I think would be to have these options in my profile:
- number of posts per page (currently 50, I'd prefer 10)
- reverse (in each thread) post order (so I can always easily see the newest 10 posts of a topic, much better than to for example only see the single newest post of a topic with 21 posts)
- display avatars (I'd prefer "no")

I think all are available in phpbb. Instead of reverse thread, I would just like to be able to click on the colored icon in the thread list that shows the thread has new posts and it take me to the first new post.
Also, a speedcubing forum would be nice, but I'm with Stefan that I'd still do a lot of my reading on the yahoo groups.

Not just speedsolving, but just solving algorithms in general.

No, a place for discussions like: "I have a Rubik's UFO. What's the sequence to swap two adjacent pieces? No, I don't want a different method."

A solutions forum? That would be usefull. Might get more posts than the marketplace forum.

I'm sure this forum would explode if there were a speedsolving topic. Personally I like the layout much better than any other twisty related forum and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Hi Guys,
The things which bother me the most about Yahoo's groups are that post are next to impossible to search, and they don't allow you to edit.
Both of these things are easy here.
Does anyone know if Yahoo could import the search and edit features easily?
The Yahoo speedsolving group is Chris's. If it moved here could he still be moderator?
Could all the posts on the Yahoo group be moved here?
Would that tick off yahoo? Would ticking off Yahoo be fun?
Just Monday musings,
David J

Tick off Yahoo would be fun for the same reasons as ticking off Microsoft, Starbucks, IBM, Enron, Wal-Mart, etc, etc.

Personally, I don't fancy the idea of another monstrous, spam-filled speedsolving forum here (sure, I contribute to the spam, too), even though there would be advantages, such as editability and easier searchability than in the yahoo one. And how would one make a new SS forum truly distinctive?
Really, I like this place as it is and wouldn't want to see it change character that much.

IMHO, I think that we can have a section on this forum (like general topics and marketplace etc.) for Speedsolving. We do not need to invite the whole yahoo group (they WILL spam, but it's up to you guys to decide). I would be very happy if there were a speedsolving criteria because I myself am a speedcubist. It should be pretty interesting~

When I first found the Twisty Megasite forum I was strictly an aspiring speedcuber but after reading a few posts I was very impressed by peoples collections and custom builds. I started visiting every day to see anything new. I was facinated by all these puzzles I never knew existed and started collecting any bargain twistys I could find on ebay (still do) and now I have a pretty wide spectrum of puzzles in various shapes and mechanisims. I also started building and it's a blast!
It's all because I stumbled in and read a few posts and now I'm addicted to everything twisty. It could happen again on a larger scale if there was a speedcubing topic here. More puzzle sales, could mean resurrections ala Dogic. More people modding puzzles coming up with more ideas I think everyone would win in that area.
But I love the small town atmosphere and except for a couple of heated moments it's very pleasant here always.
I don't know if it would change if there was a giant addition of members here or not.

Interesting.....my story of how I became a puzzle collector is almost the same as Mike's~
