how accurate is the counter? and how many more puzzles do you have to add to it?
I'm guessing you're referring to the "Number of Items Online" counter on the home page. It's 100% accurate since it's automagic. Everytime that page is shown, a script goes to the DB, counts up the total number of items as well as the number of items added/modified this week. Incidentally, the same script generates the little "window frame" graphic and parses the hit counter to determine and display the number of visitors.
I have been very persistent in taking the time to automate most of this site since remembering to maintain everything would be a nightmare... let alone actually finding the time to do it. Since there is no end in sight for this site, it just makes sense to lessen the daily/monthly load by spending large chunks of time when designing and developing to automate as much stuff as possible.
To answer your second question, I don't know exactly how many items there are left to be added, but I must have at least two hundred in my collection alone. There are also plenty of other untapped sources that will eventually be considered for inclusion. I would be surpised if our current spurt of growth plateaued before the total significantly exceeds 2000.
Why do you ask?!
