I was just reading through some discussions on the forum, and it struck me how much unique information is here.
Is TwistyPuzzles.com backed up? The forums and the museum?
It would be such a shame if all this material ever disappeared.

There are two different backup systems being used. First, all data at the host is apparently backed-up daily. Hopefully we never find out how accurate that claim is. Second, I manually perform a full database backup and an incremental file backup to my local computer every month or two. It should be a lot more often, I know. But honestly now, who really performs their data backups as often as they should? I've experienced catastrophic hard drive losses more times than I care to count, and I still haven't learned.

On a related note, Oskar and I have been chatting about backing everything up to The Jerry Slocum Foundation / Lilly Library, but that hasn't happened yet. If/when it does, it's likely to be a snapshot of an arbitrary point in time, but, admittedly, that point in time would never-the-less capture a solid 10 years of archived data.

I've wondered the same thing myself several times. This site has so much valuable knowledge that I hope will never be lost. There are privacy issues with somebody like me helping with a DB backup (PMs, etc.) but if there is another way to contribute (hardware?, money?) please let me know.

Just out of curiosity, how many GB is there on TP to back up? Does it fit on a key drive?

Thanks for all that effort keeping this backed up.

External images (which I use for all my puzzles too) are a risk for loss.
Here's an example that's a bit sad:

viewtopic.php?f=15&t=10842

It looks like the linked images are no longer online. I remember them being the first 24 cube images, with some mechanism pictures.

I'm not sure what the solution to this particular problem would be.
