I was recently sent these pictures. Does anyone have or know anything about this puzzle? How it works, where to get it? I am trying to find out more information.

I just received a message saying that it has 16 pieces. I do not know the mechanism. Now if I could just make a deal and get one of these

Technically it's the exact same as a "Masterball Cube", like the one p|astic made.

It looked kind of like a folding puzzle at first glance. But, then it looked like a masterball.

I don't know the real name of the puzzle. It appears to be a produced puzzle and not a custom, but I am not positve. Once I find out more I will share more info. Can't disclose my source just yet. I want to make an offer first

Seems like I have found a mystery puzzle that has generated lots of questions Just be patient and I will try and find out lots of info. I don't know how much my source knows but I am trying to get as much info as I can.

It definitly twists in the middle like a UFO. If it has 16 peices, you can count that there are 8 on the top layer. That of course means that there are two layers

It's a Masterball puzzle that's been bandaged. It's the only production puzzle that allows 8 separate segments extending from the poles with a cut along the equator.

hehe I know nothing beyond what I've seen. But 8 polar wedges that have been cut in half at the equator? That describes the Rainbowmaster Masterball almost exactly, minus the extra cuts. Bandage one up and you have what you see in the picture.

I'm going to guess it's a fairly large puzzle, since you have to bandage directly over the Masterball's pieces. There really isn't any room to "shave down" a Masterball since the pieces of a Masterball are colored tiles "floating" over the surface of the internal sphere.


The other nice thing you can do that you can't easily do with a Masterball is to anchor one of the "wedges" to the internal mechanism, thus preventing the internal mechanism from becoming misaligned with the tiles on the surface.


I should say that my opinion is based on the assumption that this is a custom puzzle. If it's a production puzzle then it could be any size and the mechanism could be something else entirely. But it suuuure does smack of a Masterball as others have noted.

Nah. The second picture just shows the puzzle with a single longitudinal slice.

Hopefully it is not like the OC cubes and we will be waiting 3+ years for it to come out. New puzzles are always worth the wait, I just don't like waiting.

Hmmm... I doubt it. Mabye with 90 degree turns it could chande shape!

I hope not. That would really ruin my day I have a magnetic dino and that is enough magnetic puzzles for me I would really like to see a picture of it scrambled.

If it could scramble after a 90 degree turn that would be amazing, but would require a pretty challenging internal mechanism.

Unfortunately I really don't expect much beyond a bandaged Masterball. But then again I am somewhat of a pessimist.

I also first thought of the functionality being a truncated/shaved 2-layer rainbow masterball. The mechanism could either be a masterball or magnetic though. Masterball would be much easier to do.

1-It is called a Triamint
2-It was invented by Klaus D.Pfeffer and Distributed by Toyamont Gmbh
3-The E.U Patent number is #051787
4-The puzzle itself is made of 16 multi-coloured Isoceles Tetrahedrons which are connected to each other by fabric
5-It is not a twistypuzzle and has no saving graces other than collecting

I have ordered one for 26,90 euros

Last summer a friend of mine and I saw one on a flea market. I didn't want it since I didn't consider it a twisty puzzle, she didn't want to pay the 1 Euro the seller asked for (she tried to get it for 50 cents).

From the picture alone one cannot tell if the puzzle flips through all planes like a masterball or ufo, or if it behaves more like a logi-vip.

In either case one may rotate the layers to simulate free flips on all planes.

Seems to be a better handling puzzle than the ufo. There are also far more solutions as the upper color permutation is free and the lower just have to follow the upper

Interesting. My girlfriend would really enjoy this puzzle. I have something similar to this that is a cube shape (3 colors) that on the outside looks like an edges only, no centers cube. If flips and folds in the same manner, and it can even create a rhombic dodecahedron when turned inside out. I'm not sure of the name of it though.

Man, I thought I found a new cool puzzle. Oh well, I am still hoping to get some other pictures to find out for sure what this puzzle is. Probably after Christmas. I will let you know if I find out anything else. I haven't received any replies lately to my questions so who knows.

Yeah, someone at MIT designed it in the early 80's. I don't remember his name for the moment. This is my favorite everyday cube.
