I picked up this wood puzzle at a yard sale for $1. I don't even know what it is supposed to look like when it is put together. There is 51 pieces. Would anyone happen to know anything about it? Anyone have a solution for it?

From the size of it (51 pieces) and the 3 large pieces (that form the 3 main axes) I would say that it is a 51 piece Great Pagoda . You can see one at the Cleverwood website

Thanks for the help everyone. I have never tried a puzzle like this before but for a buck I wasn't gonna pass it up. I was a little scared when I got home and counted 51 pieces, I though it should have been an even number. I think I am now addicted to this type of puzzle.

I have just been bought this puzzle. I have no idea at all how to remove the first piece to take it all apart.

This looks to me like a standard Altekruse type puzzle.

Usually one or two of the short bars (3 cubes long) can slide sideways for about half its length. One of the long bars perpendicular to it can be pushed inwards until the short bar comes loose. This then frees up all the other pieces on that and the opposite side.

You will probably have to do the same thing again with one of the other short bars before all the pieces can be freed.

If you want to take apart the puzzle in the picture. Here's what to do. Move the 3 cube piece thats at the bottom of the picture not the puzzle because there looks like to be a gap in the picture above. If it doesn't turn one way try the other. These are fun puzzles to take apart. I almost have these puzzles memorised it's just the 3 first big pieces that I don't have memorised yet and the rest is easy!!!
