Has anyone else seen this puzzle? Or any of the other puzzles on this site?
http://www.mazeworks.com/english16/index.htmlIt's a pretty fun peg puzzle. The challenge isn't really in solving the puzzle, as much as it is finding the shortest possible solution. The shortest known solution is 46 moves long, and the shortest I've gotten is 70 using a 3-phase method. It's a fun little puzzle, and it would be interesting to see how other puzzlers approach it.
Here's what I did:
I found a 20 move sequence which swaps four pieces from one square with four pieces in the other, along the "X" shape. All that remains after that are the 2x2 squares. I used a 13 move sequence to swap the solved "X" pieces with the unsolved "square" pieces on each side, for a total of 26 moves. Then, I just repeated the 20 move sequence on the "X" and it was solved in 66 moves. Inefficient? Probably, but I'm still playing around with it. I might be able to shave moves off of the 13 move sequence, but I'm probably going to have to find a completely different approach if I want to make a significant change.
EDIT: Found a 16 move alternative for the 20 move sequence, bringing my solution down to 58 moves.
