Originally I was thinking, 'Yeah, I do this all the time on my own' but when I saw how well others were doing the Mandelbrot algorithm, I was like, 'OMGWTFBBQ!!!'
My AP Comp Sci class last year did this all the time. Object-oriented code golf is an abstract game (lol) that works well in a class setting since we're all in the same language with the same assignment and instructions and we've all been taught the same material up to that point. Another coding challenge is the sorting techniques. Try coming up with your own method to be as efficient as you can get it. This way you get the minimum lines challenge in addition to efficiency challenge.

I've been playing codegolf since 2007 at http://golf.shinh.org. This site supports almost every popular programming language and has hundreds of golf challenges of various difficulty. You can also submit your own challenges.
