1)Soma cubes are not rare. 2)Soma cubes are nicer in wood. Plastic ones are cheap and cheap looking. 3)They come in different sizes (small to big). The common ones have 5 and 7 pieces. 4) I don't know of anyone that specializes in collecting Soma cubes. The Soma cube is only one in the large number of Put Together type of puzzles. 4)Someone is an idiot that paid too much - I cann't beleive that the color or brand can raise the cost that much. It is like buying a rare sticker 3x3x3 variation for $50 (including shipping).

Come to think about it. It looks exactly like my Soma cube, although mine is yellow. I got mine when I was 10. It was one of the first puzzles in my collection. If anybody is interested, I can make a big effort and sell mine for the same price.

Oh, BTW, I know the seller of the second auction fairly well. We've had at least a half dozen transactions for at least 20 items total over the past few years. If this is anything like the other items they've sold in the past, they probably have a bunch, so those who want SOMA cubes at a better price might want to consider e-mailing the seller directly.
