Here are some "glamour photos" I took before I mailed it away. The assembled box windows on the top & bottom. A ruby is visible through the top. A sapphire is visible through the bottom. Open the lid by navigating it through a sort of "Maze." After taking the lid off you can see the maze carved into the middle part. Can you read the hidden message? Here are all the parts, fully disassembled.

katsmom wrote: Sir! That is Brilliant! I never even noticed that bit of it. Truly amazing you are! Thanks Rox. One of your FaceBook comments inspired the Rox Box idea, uniquely combining 3 wordplays in a single puzzle box: - It could contain "rocks" (gemstones)
- It would belong to Rox.
- It should incorporate "Rox" into the puzzle solution.
The box is 100% 3D printed...except for the gems, of course. This project was a milestone for me, so here's a quick tour of my experience. (Click any thumbnail for a larger view.) It was rather exciting when my 3D printer displayed this message: The model emerges from the machine as a solid block. The machine cuts and glues the sheets as it stacks them, but it leaves the unused material in the block to support layers above. The windows were created by building some layers out of clear material and the rest out of opaque white. (I simply switched the 3D printer's materials during the build.) I 'weeded' away the unused material to reveal the solid models inside. Separately I built two gem holders out of black material and snapped the gemstones into them. Each gemholder has an opening on the back so the gem can be removed by pushing it out. The gemholders slide into the center insert. Then the insert 'corkscrews' into the box. The lid goes on by threading it through the Rox maze... ...and the gems are locked inside, but still visible through the windows.

Ah, the secret is out, so I can finally declare this looks wonderful! Maze-based puzzle boxes are definitely in fashion right now.

I recently posted a video showing how the box works, and it's got a clearer view of the Rox lettering. It's a bit embarrassing...or funny, depending on your point of view. I wasted most of the video trying to get the #$%* box open! (It's much harder to solve a puzzle while you're staring into a camera's viewfinder trying to keep it in focus!) edit: now available in 720p HD at YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7BZqb6gUes

Don't forget Kelvin's Qubami Packaging.

This is very cool. The ROX pattern is the best part I think. The stones the prettiest. Don't forget Kelvin's Qubami Packaging. And Oskar's Cooksey mazes! Although they are a little bit different...

I'm wondering if, when Kelvin finishes his packaging, if I should count that container-maze as a new puzzle for my lists.
