The story behind this set is the following.
Some month ago Chris Lohe told me something about a high price wooden puzzle made by Tom Jolly in 2004. We found a auction in which this puzzle found a new home for more than 400 USD. At the DCD I asked Goetz (he has this puzzle in his collection) for further informations. It was the x-lattice.
After all I tried to built it again. First I started with the DCD give away (small package with 3 color pieces) . I used wooden cubes from the internet (100 pieces less than 10 USD) and glued them together. Afer a little bit sanding it works beautiful.
Than I built a 4x4x4 puzzles names Tetropus. Is works fantastic, too.
But the x-lattice made a lot of problems by putting together. Goetz told me about the tolerances. I designed it with ACad and made a 3d-print of the both pieces. The edges were filleted. Now it works perfect. Nice to play with it.
The best way to design such kind a puzzles is to buy a lot of casino dices (b-ware). They have automaticly the rounded edges you need.
