Although I made this experimental transformation a few months back I wasn't going to reveal it just yet. However since Frederic's 13 sided polyhedron is similar I thought I should. The idea behind it was to pretty much go with the flow. No plans, no worked out angles etc. I had no idea how it would look until I finished it. I wonder if it was the same for Frederics?
My puzzle has 12 sides and is made from a regular 3x3x3. I haven't settled for a name yet but for now I am calling it Unique 1. As the name suggests it is totally unique, there are no moulds for it and although I might make similar puzzles I will never make this exact one again.

I agree with Joey, and it looks great, makes me want to fiddle around with shape mods that have no particular shape

I think you have to have a lot of puzzlebuilding experience to make a puzzle with no idea of what your doing. I mean, I don't think I could do it.

Yes, despite being a different shape and puzzle core, it is conceptually very similar to Frederic's. Even down to the way you have tried to get the puzzle so off centre. I like the idea of producing several with the same idea, but no two the same.

Frederic seemed to make some attempt at regularity in some of the sides of his puzzle. Was there any order behind the shape you made or was it completely random?

The red side is the side of the original cube. This means the centre has no obvious orientation so may cause problems when solving the other "centres". I tried to avoid having to use really tiny stickers so when that looked likely I changed it a bit. Otherwise it was pretty random.

That's sneaky! Nice idea to throw an extra problem into the mix.

Conversely, it enables the solver to resolve orientation problems on other centres by transferring their rotations into the red side. (ie: the red centre can act as a 'dumping ground' for odd center rotations.) Oh wait, that's what causes the problem isn't it?

This must have been a very satisfying object to build because it's a product of free, unrestricted self-expression!

yes, I am really sensible to these forms, that's the kind of shape that i am looking for when i do some modification.
I think, it is even one of my favorite of your productions, and the colors are fresh too, you must have a nice collection of vinyl stickers now;-)

even though I didn't know exactly how my mod will turn out i still had a precise idea of the shape that I wanted to obtain
my goal was to shape the form into devided regular polygons like the image below
but i wanted the shape to be longer in order to distand the mechanism from one of the poles so
that I could have brighter divisions in the mixing ( a friend of mine helped me to write this sentense )
fatally buy stretching the volume all the faces are not regular polygons and through the cuts I was confronted to too small stickers.

Wow, amazing work Tony. I hope this type of puzzle design catches on. Imagine something like this done with a Square-1, or a 5x5!

How about you call it the 3x3 anamorphic?(anamorphic meaning whithout shape )

I think it would be cool if we had a kind of series of these puzzles, the anamorphic 3x3, 4x4, 5x5, square-1, skewb,(frederic plateus' puzzle)I mean, they'd be incredibly fun to make and would be pretty much the coolest puzzles in existence.

I think you mean amorphic. I did consider that and amorphous but I am pretty sure it was used for another puzzle a while back. I kind of like Unique 1 because it gives me the opportunity to make a Unique 2 etc.

I don't get how you come up with such a shape. Do you build up the cube and then make your angled cuts to achieve the basic shape?
