This one, besides being fully aligned is also symmetrical.
Look and one of the centers. It lies on an edge. Two opposite edges on that layer are also on that edge. The other two edges in that layer are part of edges on adjacent faces. And because of this all the corner pieces are identical.
So more or less it is the same puzzle as this. Except much smaller.

It's still an amazing build. And the internal mechanism picture! Wow. Very impressive.

It's superb!
When I saw the first picture I thought that the pieces of wood were glued onto a regular cube. And even that I thought was cool. I'm so amazed that this puzzle was made from scratch!
I also like it without stickers - like a bump cube. There are multiple solutions now, but I like that.
And (no offence Tony!) I like it better than the look of Tony Fisher's Dodecahedron. On this wooden one the pieces don't vary that much in size.
So, in short... amazing!

I meant twisty puzzles but that is a good point, there are a lot of wooden puzzles out there and I shouldn't forget about them.

The second time I looked at this I realized how beautiful it was. I love how the mech has been put into a dodecahedron so that there's only about 3 different types of pieces.

Lol now maybe people are going to start building wooden twisty puzzles?
How well do the wooden cubes turn?

what might look nice is if he gave each side a finish of some sort that had a mildly different color then the other finishes.
but then again, i dont know much about wooden puzzles or how to finish things.

How about 1mm tiles made of different types of wood? Or different shade/color stained wood.

That's what I was thinking. It looks great now, but if one wants it to have a singular solution I'd do it by staining, not stickering.

by mandarin characters do you mean mandarin letters.
i was thinking dodeca-12...the 12 animals of the chinese calendar if you had an awesome engraver, now tell me that a side that looked like a dragon would not be completely awesome.

First of all, Mandarin is a spoken dialect of Chinese. Written Chinese does not have letters (Though for some time now, they have had many forms of phoenetics to assists in pronounciation, but not part of the word.), only characters (individual words).
There is no "Chinese Calendar." The traditional Chinese followed the lunar calendar and had 12 animals in their zodiac, one per year, in a specific order.
That's all.
P.S. This is what I know, but I might be wrong.

Hmmm,
To distinguish the sides, perhaps you could use different types of wood?
I have a burr puzzle that uses different types of wood - which varies in color, grain, and smell. On each axis - X, Y, and Z axis would have their own respective wood.
http://www.mrpuzzle.com.au/webcontent119.htm
Scroll down to the Visible Burr for an example.
