I made this puzzle a few days ago. I know there has been a white plastic Supernova but I don't think a white Megaminx has ever been made. I normally wouldn't make a puzzle like this since I don't like white plastic and I seldom copy other puzzles. However because I am currently experimenting with new materials and techniques for comparison purposes I wanted to create something that already existed (shape wise). In addition I wanted to try a resin dye other than my normal black. This is not just a painted Megaminx, the white pieces are new ones I have created using polyurethane resin coloured with white pigment. It has a standard Megaminx core so I am not ripping off Uwe Meffert by making this puzzle. I had to buy his regular Megaminx in order to make this. Uwe has given me permission to transform his puzzles.
Please do not send me messages/emails requesting this puzzle.

That looks so beautiful, I like the white color because you usually see black.
EDIT: Did you buy the cube off of ebay?

Shouldn't this be in the Puzzle Building area?
Cool idea btw, it looks nice. Now we just need someone to make a clear megaminx

Very nice! Now for a white gigaminx :)
I would say that if anyone was to make a clear megaminx, it should be Hidetoshi, he's made several clear mods!

The stickers?
Are they the ones from the original puzzle?

Awesome job Tony!!!
May I ask, how well does the new plastic react with lubrication? Would it be speedcubable?
How much of a difference (good or bad) is it compared to the White Container?
In terms of the plastic use and handling and making/molding - not so much as solving it.
Btw - those stickers look great! Are they textured?

The stickers are from a regular Megaminx. I haven't lubricated it as it moves pretty well anyway. Better in fact than a normal Megaminx. The thought of my puzzles being used for speedcubing (speedodecahedroning?) kind of scares me. As for the new plastic it's difficult for me to fully test it so I just hope it will be OK. I started using it when I made the Gigaminx since I needed something far more accurate than the resin I'd been using for years. I think this puzzle is better than the white Container since the white can't rub off but I suspect it will still get a bit dirty. The Megaminx was one I'd purchased from Meffert previously.

Excuse my ignorance but when did this section start? I don't always check the forum and for ease I have a few different sections set up in my favourites. For this reason I almost never go to the index page. If I had known the section existed I would have posted there.

The Puzzle Building forum was established in June, and it immediately provoked this debate about where puzzle announcements should go. Your glamour shots and the puzzle itself are probably General-interest, but someone looking for this custom puzzle would probably start in Puzzle Building.
I tried to be sensitive to the opinions and suggestions in that thread when I posted Dario DiBattista's Morpho in two forums: a how-it's-built thread in the Puzzle Building forum, and a glamour shot thread in the General forum. Each thread had a link to the other.
I'm not sure how well that experiment worked, but I don't think it did any harm.

Thanks, I can't believe how much stuff I've missed. Lee Tutt's Icosaminx etc etc. I think Sandy should have announced it in General Topics.

I think he did announce it but it was halfway down in a thread that was talking about all the other improvments he made a few months ago too.

How do you go about making the core? Can you give me the composition of it and how you created the pieces that make up the core? Thanks
