The white Plastic is amazing. I'm a personal fan of white plastic puzzles. Not that there is anything wrong with Black ones, My two Reasons for liking the white ones more is that there are less of them around. Will you Ever Be selling These peaces of art?

Looks really better than the one I bought off you, Adam.
Indeed it makes me wish to have it, hehehe.
(but I'm still happy with the "prototype", too)

Looks slick! Is this done via rapid prototype? And if so, what sort or machine / material is used?

The material is ABS plastic, 3D printed on a Dimension FDM machine. The white plastic is very white unlike the slightly off white cubes, and makes it look cleaner and brighter than the Rubik's Cubes. The plastic is also very tough and slick, making the movement much better than any of the cast parts. It is also very light. The Rubik's Cube is approximately 100g, the SuperX 1.0 200g, and the SuperX 2.0 130g.
The puzzle moves great, and snaps into place at the end of a corner turn thanks to small ball bearings press fit into the plastic. This is one of the 3 major improvements I made over the v1.0.
1. Snap-to bearings (eliminates "squishiness")
2. Corner axis caps (cleaner more finished look)
3. Adjustable tension (still fine tuning the springs)
This gives the puzzle a lot of parts:
61 printed parts
24 balls
14 screws
22 washers
8 springs
8 lock nuts
48 stickers
(185 Total including stickers)
Thank you for the nice comments,
Adam
p.s. I will be offering white and black for auction in the next few weeks. Save your pennies...
p.p.s. I may even show some mechanism pics if you ask nicely...

It looks like it does, but that's only based on the separations in the pieces that I see.

I'm very curious on the vendor you used for the 3d printing...
And I'm also very curious on the internal mechanisms!

The 3D printing shop I use is http://www.FDMOnly.com I posted more in my SuperX Prototype post.
Here are some mechanism pics from the 3D SolidWorks model.
The first shows the arrangement of the parts. The 2x2x2 portion of the mechanism is similar to the eastsheen one (bandaged 3x3x3), and the outer mechanism is similar to a dino cube. Yes, this puzzle moves like a 2x2x2 and Dino.
The second picture shows a cross section of the corner axis showing the ball bearing press fit into the blue corner axis part. The green outer edge has a notch in it that clicks into place when the edge is aligned with the corner axis. The hole for the corner axis screw and spring can also be seen.

I didn't notice that you stuck the mechanism pics up until just now, so sorry for the belated thank you, but thank you! That is a *really* clever idea, I think! The 8-axis-from-4 cage bit, that is.
Cheers!

@ Atarian: He's said, the puzzle was 3D printed.
Anyways, I love the mechanism! I love the idea of a cube mechanism first, then a dino mechanism made off of the cube's corners. (Not that there's any other way to do it, but still a great mechanism!)
Edit: By the way, the mechanism just reminded me of the way a Crystal is made from a Megaminx mechanism.

It's ABS--same as a production puzzle. Wear would thus be the same as a production puzzle (i.e., excellent).

So basically the mechanism is like a Dino-Cube, except the "centers" of the Dino are on 2x2 corners, and the edges are cut in half?

I think it moves more like an overlapping 3x3x3 on the internal movement, then the separate movement is the corners like a dino cube. Very nice design. Can it be scaled up to a 3x3x3 sitting on a 4x4x4 type mechanism where the center would also rotate?

WOW Thanks for all the responses!
To answer some questions:
Material
All 61 of the parts are 3D printed. The cost is $50 in material, and 24.5 hours of machine time (sorry, I am not going to tell you how much that costs me, but the rate I paid for my prototype SuperX 1.0 master parts was $20 per machine-hour). The parts are very durable, and also light, because the outer edge pieces are not solid. They are made in sparse fill mode, which puts a mesh inside the part to support the upper layers and conserve material.
Mechanism
The mechanism is similar to an eastsheen 2x2x2 inside a dino. It is different from an overlapping 3x3x3 because only one side moves independently from the center, and not both. Could an Overlapping/SuperX be made? Yes, but the centers would get in the way of the outer edge pieces as they are currently designed. I have also considered an edges only cube/SuperX, but I have not figured it out yet.
Money
How much will it cost? That depends on the bidders... The auctions will start with a white one, then a black one the week after that. All of my puzzles come in a custom box and have free shipping worldwide!
Stay Tuned for more!
Adam
p.s. For those who want to get a jump on solving the SuperX, a free computer version can be found here. The applet is labeled Cube 3.4.2 (or Cube FV2 depending on the program version).

Adam, I must admit that I love the look of this puzzle so much that I even watch this thread multiple times everyday even if noone has posted anything new .
I was also thinking, because you have basically everything needed for a company (like mefferts) to mass-produce this puzzle, are you thinking anywhere near those lines? I mean, most custom-built puzzles are built by hand and not by machine , but since you designed this for direct 3d-printing I just thought
I die a little inside everytime I think about the auctions i won't even have the money to start bidding on

I was thinking... since I'm auctioning off a Platypus, one of Meffert's puzzles.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Platypus-lighted-ru ... dZViewItem
The movement of this puzzle is somewhat similar to this puzzle.
The tops rotate as well as the angles. Kind of the same movement as this puzzle, only not nearly as attractive as your creation.
Ok the spamming of the auction link was just me messing around. As I'm sure it would completely annoy a few of you. Relax. I'm only kidding around with you guys.

S., you are kinda right, but it has far less axes. Actually, if one were to make a platypus into a tetrahedron, would it be the tetrahedral equivalent to a SuperX? That would be pretty cool.
edit: on second thought, it might resemble more the "baby face" cube taht was posted on here a while ago.

thanks for that. I was looking at this puzzle and the platypus and could see the similarities considering the platypus is built somewhat like a dino cube or rainbow cube style.
