Well, I finally decided to build a puzzle. I think it turned out pretty good.

Yes. I thought the exact same thing. I was thinking if it was possible to have that be Mr. Twisty's first mod. This look amazing. I would like to know how well this "cube" (not really a cube anymore) turns. Is it possible to have a video Mr. Twisty?

That mod looks to be of professional quality. I too thought that you had built puzzles before this. This is an incredible first puzzle!

OK, I have had my fun. I had to get an April Fools in sometime this month I better give credit to where it is do, otherwise I will be in trouble.

This is actually an Anthony Greenhill Original 20 Sided 3x3x3 Icosahedron. Very well made, very light and functional. I have had it a few months and finally got a picture taken.

I have made a few 2x2x2 mods and tried a square-1 mod. I have done a few just by changing parts around, but not much with casting, molding, etc.

I would just rather leave the nice designs to the experts.

Also... this puzzle seems pretty cool. I want this one... I'm not sure if I want to scramble it and solve it because it wouldn't look so great mixed up. But It would be a shame to have it in my collection and not be able to solve it...

Sorry, I do not share design info from other designers. I did that once and got a message that I do not want to get again.

I personally think if you want to know about a perticular puzzle, contact the person who made it. If they want to share info great, if not, that is their decision.

I must say though that the offset skewb is the most incredible design I have taken apart. The parts were amazing.

My custom mods

How the 20 tile puzzle is made is relatively simple in concept. It's just building up an existing puzzle with prosthetics. This can be achieved in several different ways, although it's known that Anthony Greenhill likes using plastic card for puzzles like this.

There is no mechanism modification needed. You just need to be darn good at keeping things straight and bonding pieces together.

Now how EXACTLY it's made can vary of course, but I'd say he employed jigs and templates. Exactly hand cutting and shaping that many pieces can be daunting. He probably also used plastic sheets to attain the desired flat surfaces.

And honestly, Mr. Twisty had me fooled completely. To think I was going to praise him for a job well done.

It doesn't have to be scrambled. Just do R2 and if it retains it's shape, then it would if scrambled with just half turns.

I'm 100% for sure that it does change its shape and here is why it does changes the shape. Each edge has 2 positions and the center of each face on a normal cube has 4 positions so yes it does change shape. The corners do not change the shape of the puzzle when it is scrambled.

But half turns would negate the edge issue.

Like a lot of other 3x3x3 shape modifications, this one doesn't change shape if you do a half turn. Of course, scrambling it with quarter turns will mix up the shape, but it still isn't really harder to solve than a normal 3x3x3 (even though it looks infinitely cooler).
