I just ordered the white with black sticker one. I've been waiting for this puzzle to come out for a while and figured it never would since each piece is different.

I got this one already. Do someone know if they plan to mass produce a 2x2x2 or a 4x4x4 version of this cube?

The 2x2x2 version is a possibility as it only needs 8 different pieces (+mechanism).
The 4x4x4 is simply not practical as it would need 56 different pieces (+mechanism). Over twice the 26 needed for the 3x3x3!

Since I can't see the pictures, and the descriptions only mention the sticker color, what color is the plastic?

Also, is it still cheaper to order from Jade Club and does Jade Club still have a website done entirely in Flash? If yes to both, would anyone be willing to help me order one though Jade Club? My screen reader can't do anything with flash, an no one in my family knows their way around computers well enough to help.

I hate to be the one that always gripes about price, but I think $36 is a bit high. I don't think I'll be getting this one because of that.

That's what I said about the Golden Cube. And now look how much they're worth...
Because of this I bought one even though I have an original. Just to have one for my collection.

This is right around 1/3 of the cost of buying one any other way, and every piece needs its own mold to be made (0 symmetry) so I think it's fair for what it is

I ordered a black one with white stickers as I already have one of the original white with black stickers. Considering how bad the stickers look in the pictures (I will probably eventually replace them) I didn't see any reason to buy the set of 5 just to get different colored stickers.

I bought the black + white twins. Didn't buy the full set because to me golden stickers belong to golden cube, not ghost cube.

Also planning to replace the stickers with appropriately sized ones if someone sells them.

A psychology question more then anything...

Others have tried to get away from stickers. We have stickerless 3x3x3 puzzles where the corners are made in 3 pieces and the edges in 2 pieces simply so they can be molded in color. My newest Rubik's cube has built in plastic tiles. And V-Cube is now offering cubes with the colors printed on each face. This names just a few of the measures that have been taken to get away from stickers. Yet here we have a perfect example of a puzzle that could be a stickerless puzzle just as it is. The stickers add nothing to the solve. So why the need to cover this puzzle with any stickers?

I'm not really trying to bash stickers and I know the answer is likely to simply be personal preference. But why not offer just the white or black puzzle unstickered?

Just my odd thought of the day...
Carl

It's more a matter of taste, I would say. An all black Ghost Cube looks probably less beautiful to most of us than a stickered one.
Mine is black with stickers from flambore (Frank) and the stickers have a high sentimental value to me.

The metallic version will look beautiful in its own way. Probably nobody will sticker it

BTW Adam, what happened to this project? (the metallic version, I mean)
I didn't hear from you for a while :)

Though I agree with you on most parts, and I personally like a stickerless Cube more than a stickered cube myself (personal preference. I got a stickerless Dayan V Zanchi 3x3x3 and Dayan Wheels of Wisdom).
But with the Ghost Cube I think it looks a lot cooler with the stickers. I mean, doesn't this look a lot better than this to you?

Of course the puzzle looks much nicer with stickers, with stickers you see the lines on the cube better.

Maybe its just me, but I think a stickerless version with the Imperial White used as the base color of the Jade Puzzles would look magnificent on this puzzle. This also seems like a perfect puzzle for transluecent white/frosted plastic. Both are finishes that I think go good with the "Ghost" name and making the puzzle look other worldly. Though I must confess, a part of me is temped to get both the set and the twins, and destrickering the twins.

As for the price, I would think lack of mass market appeal has as much to do with the cost as it having 26 unique parts shared with no other puzzle. Doesn't the Mirror blocks have a similar number of unique parts, yet cost only a fraction because it can appeal to those just starting to expand beyond the original cube whereas this is more a puzzle for serious collectors/solvers? If this had the potential to sell millions rather than thousands, it would probably be a lot more affordable.

I think that the price tag is right although they make a lot of profit sice you can buy 5 for 99 dollars, that is 20 dollars a piece and they also make profit, although that I can't complain cause they are GHOST CUBES!!!! :)

The mefferts website just went back online and no longer shows the extra golden ghost cube as a limited edition puzzle part of the 4 puzzle pack. Is this a mistake or intentional? If intentional I placed my order b4 the website shut down so am I guarantied all 5 puzzles?

The 5th limited edition is still advertised on jadeclub.org
I wasn't aware that that offer was ever available on Mefferts.com,
although I could be wrong.

I just ordered mine. This is so exciting!

Just three weeks ago, I was heavily debating between a Ghost cube and an Eitan's Star. I was literally in the process of transferring money into PayPal when I became impatient with the wait and bought Eitan's Star instead. Three days later, this gets announced. I guess I made the right decision. :)

I went ahead and pre-ordered the white stickers on black cube to go along with my black-on-white cube when they ship. I have a feeling these puzzles will look better than the handmade ghost cubes when un-stickered. These mass-produced ones seem to have a much more defined gap in between the pieces already, and that is probably why they have smaller stickers. The hand-made ones I've seen the pieces are practically flush at the cuts and that allowed for stickers to cover the piece more, and when un-stickered it looks hard to see the cuts when in a solved state.

I figure I'll play with them until the stickers start to fade or peel (which probably won't be for a really long time). Then I'll un-sticker the pieces and mix and match the white and the black pieces. I bet that would look kind of cool.

Thanks for the update Adam. I ordered from the Jade Club and there was no reference that it was a pre-order so I have been expecting mine to show up any day now.
