Hi Everyone,

I'm happy to show you may latest puzzle, the Fracture-10 master Edition. This puzzle is the same size and shape as the original Fracture-10, but it has an additional slice layer at each axis. This additional layer is only accessible when 90 degree turns are available on that axis.

You can buy Fracture-10 master Edition in my Shapeways shop.
You can see the puzzle in action on YouTube.

Check out the photos below, and let me know if you have any questions.

Stay puzzled!
Dave

I really love this, it would probably be really fun to solve! It reminds me of the idea I spoke to you about before and decide to give up! What are the chances of a shape mod into a pentagonal prism; therefore a "Master Fracture Prism" :D

Brilliant David! Fracture 10 is a puzzle I must buy soon, and this should follow on not far behind it :D

I would like to point out that your link to youtube is incorrect, yours points to your video manager instead of the actual video.

I am sorry that I can't ask more relevant questions.

Absolutely. In a few years, we'll see like a 19x19 that people put so much work into designing and making stable, when people could just mass-produce mostly already designed puzzles. It's not that higher order cubes are bad, just that these types of puzzles are just way better.

And well done David!

I'm not sure about the weight since I don't have access to a good scale. The edges around the equator are each two inches long. The long sides are (approximately) 2.894 inches.

Great to see a higher-order jumbling puzzle. Have we seen those before, or is this the first one?

What would the puzzle look like if it were face-turning? Could you make a sketch of that?

Oskar

I PM'd David earlier:

Hey David!

Your latest puzzle made me think of its prism shaped cousin, am I right in thinking this would be it? Apart from the fact I've used shallower cuts?

http://prntscr.com/3dkz9j

If I'm right, then this shape (I think) emphasizes only being able to turn the shallower faces when 90 degree turns are possible. Which is why I took the liberty of unbandaging the puzzle somewhat:

http://prntscr.com/3dky7n

If you attempted this design and decided to not go through with it I think I know why, but if you didn't think of this, what do you think?

Eitan has made several higher-order jumbling puzzles (Master Curvy Copter, Master Helicopter Cube, Master Curvy Copter Plus), and there may have been some other higher-order jumblers as well.

I think JackRTully has done a nice job of showing a face turning version with his circle prism idea. A few years ago I did play with the concept of a higher order RotoCrystal. There are a few different ways the idea might be implemented, but the concept has been sitting on the shelf in favor of other projects.
