What a beautiful puzzle. I sure hope this is available on mainstream sites. Is looks like two variants, a regular and a void. Is that correct?

It is available on icebay.com and on eachbyte.com, from what I could find out.

Evgeniy, you are pretty fast.
We have 2 new puzzles, Evil Eye I (Close-eye) Dodecahedron and Evil Eye II (Open-eye) Dodecahedron, designed by Mr. HN. Mechanism photo as below :

These look really interesting and a great price but it's not clear really how they turn and even less clear what the difference is between the closed eye and open eye.

Anyone able to give some info or even better a video showing them off?

Well the tips can be turned so with the "normal" version it is not clear where the centers are. With the version 1 with holes in it, it can be seen.

It looks like a 5 layer vertice turning puzzle. I suppose the inner slice can be turned individually unless it is always connected to one of the two sides. Which I doubt.

I just ordered one of each, I think. I completed the PayPal purchase but then the HK Now Store page crashed upon returning to it. I did get the email receipts from both PayPal and Now Store International Company so I am pretty sure my order went through.

I think the Closed Eye version is equivalent to an RD Cross Cube with the centres hidden by the curved pieces.

I think the 'eyes' in the Open Eye version are equivalent to the 3x3x3 base cube edges that normally aren't visible on a regular Cross Cube.

What about the vertices where 3 colors meet? Can those turn with the round pieces like a rex cube? That's the only possible difference from a shape-modded cross cube that I can imagine, but I can't tell if the mechanism would allow that movement.

Dear puzzlers

I just want to add some information according to this puzzle.
Before I ordered the puzzle I couldnt find hardly any information about it.
So if you interested in this puzzle I can give you a small review (Spoiler alarm!):

When I saw it first I expected this to be a big challenge.
I ordered the open eye because I thought it could be something like the wormhole cube where you have to solve the inner puzzle first.
Now I got it and it is much easier to solve like expected :-)
I fact it is has the same parts like a 3x3 cube with the difference, that the edges are splitted in 2 parts.
The dots (open eye) are the correspondance of the centers on a rubiks cube. The only difference is that the centers can change their cunjunction to each other. But you need just a few moves to bring them in the right conjunction.
Solving the edges is just intuitive (maybe you need a sune if you are left with 2 edges).
All you need for the rest is a simple CPS :-)

I must admit that I wrote down the color scheme first. Without that "cheat" the solve would be a little bit harder (but not too hard, since you can find out the color scheme by analyzing the corners)

This is a good example for how less I know about puzzles :-) I guess a puzzle builder could much better understand what a puzzle actually is just by seeing it and knowing how it turns. I definetely got to improve on that.

Finally I want to say that for me this puzzle is not the big challenge that I expected but it is really fun to solve it :-)

Happy puzzling!

Doctor Twist

To be more accurate this puzzle is actually a rombic-dodecahedron shape mod of a Cross Cube. The centers of the open eyes actually correspond to the edges of the inner 3x3x3 which on a Cross Cube are normally semi-hidden unless you get one of the new ones with colored plastic.

Just FYI, Lightake has both versions on sale for $16.80 [+free shipping] as part of their Chinese New Year celebration. Price good through February 15th.

For no particular reason I wanted to link this video shot by Claus of a puzzle he purchased and printed from me quite some time ago. Identical to this puzzle all except in my version the corner was visible.

Well Muffet I approve it's similar but the shape of the puzzles are not the same. Your is a octahedron and the mass produced one are rhombic dodecahedron right?

I got my puzzle today (Open Eye). I'm surprised that you found it so easy when at the same time the paradigm you are using is completely misleading.
As others have said it several times, it is a Cross Cube in the shape of a Rhombic Dodecahedron. The dots in the eyes are the edges of the inner, otherwise completely hidden 3x3x3. (As Volitar Prime has described them correctly above).
Because the centres are invisible you can get the same parity as on the Void Cube.

I didn't find it hard either, I just wanted to say that 12 centres on a Rubik's cube are a bit extraordinary
And 60 moveable parts are a bit more than 20.

If you do not write down the colour scheme it is certainly harder than an ordinary Cross Cube.

EDIT: as a side note

The Museum informs us that the Cross Cube was invented by Tony Fisher.
grigr's version was mass-produced by Calvin Fan.
You can buy signed mass-produced Cross Cubes from Tony.
