I asked Greg to design this for me. He made it in the last week. It tooks him only some hours. And now the unbelievable: Shapeways printed it in only 2 days in WSF polished. Here are the first assembling results. I think it will take me more time for finishing as Greg and Shapeways together. Attachment:

BTW: What is it?

Very tough to solve, that is for sure! It looks mighty interesting and LOTS of pieces.. wow.

Semi-edge/vertex-turning rhombic triacontahedron?

This is reminiscent of an idea posted in the GB thread by Stefan: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=7830&start=3050This looks like a corner-turning rhombicosidodecahedron that has been shape-modded into a rhombic triacontahedron. It looks like it may be difficult to scramble effectively. Pretty spectacular surface-cut pattern in any case!

Face turning deltoidal hexacontahedron in the shape of a rhombic triancontahedron. Much like Eitan's shape transformation of the FTDI to the Edge Turning Rhombic Dodecahedron.
Looks pretty cool.

Yes Luke, this is an ETRT Also for those wondering why the core is so strange, it's because I had to make circular pieces (centers of rotation) attached to the theoretical center pieces, but these pieces, that always stay on their 'face', like a 3x3 center, don't pass through the axis of rotation, meaning I couldn't put a screw directly in them. Claus, would you mind posting a picture of a center please ?

Who's damned to sticker it Anyway - hope it will twist acceptable. I like to see it on our next meeting. Together with the Penguin of course. GCD?

I assembled the puzzles. It was the hardest work I have ever done by puzzles. I will describe it like assembling of the 24 cube blind and with gloves on both hands. But the result looks pretty good. The sticker sets cut by Oliver arrived. Thank you so much for this "tiny" job. Before starting stickering I made the lubrication. I need much spray to make it very good moveable. Here the puzzle after finishing three faces. Attachment:

I'll hope I can show you a video of the complete puzzle on weekend. But it will be hard to scramble. It does shapeshifting and jumbling but only for the tiny pieces.

That's going to be insane! If you accidentally scramble it, you can take it apart and re-assemble it, now that you know how to do it

I'm assuming the tiny center pieces have the same shape as the faces? If so, would a 1,1 commutator of a group of 3 tiny pieces block faces from turning? (I hope you can imagine what I mean, I can't upload pictures from my phone)

WOW!!! This looks crazy. Is this the first puzzle with 30 axes of rotation? Let's see... I count 510 stickers and 362 surface pieces that need to be solved. Yes, this is crazy alright.
Great work!!! Carl

Great work!!! Carl No: Helicopter Dodecahedron Greg's FTRT Eitan's Big Kahuna Dodecacopter II -Doug Not quite. Those puzzles have 15 axes of rotation, not 30. Two centers lie on each axis.

Great work!!! Carl Just to clear things up a bit, this puzzle has 30 axes of rotation if you consider the 3x3 to have 3. If you consider the 3x3 to have 6,this one has 60. I believe it is the first one to have 30 indeed. It is not the first one, considering Oskar made the big boulder, which also has 30, but his and mine have slightly different basic geomtries.

RubixFreakGreg wrote: Oskar made the big boulder, which also has 30 I'm pretty sure (someone correct me if this is wrong) that the Big Boulder actually does have 60. The reason is because the pentagonal hexecontahedron does not have parallel opposing faces, unlike the deltoidal hexecontahedron.

Man, that is a very nice puzzle. How long did the stickering take? Are you going to post a video? But, (said in a loud and menacing voice) scramble it, SCRAMBLE IT, SCRAMBLE IT!

The stickering took 1 and a half football game, 2 hours 15 minutes.
Yes I will show a video of it. But not before Wednesday when I come home.

Ordered. Shapeways is saying March 19th for shipping. Maybe I'll have the first one in black!
Now to find (mail-order) sixty M3 screws!
Claus... can you please provide the length of the M3 screws you used. The description only gives the length of the twelve M2 screws.
Also... did you use glue for the small stickers?

Frank Tiex wrote: ..and I am surprised it is so cheap on Shapeways! Too tempting! I really hope you are tempted! I hope everyone is tempted. Think of all the fun assembling and stickering. That alone could make it worth the cost. In any case, I will make a series of videos on my channel so people can see a bit more of the puzzle. I'm interested in the ETRT because it has an awesome geometry - rhombic triacontahedron - and a very interesting turning mechanism. The rhombic triacontahedron has 60 edges, so making an edge-turning puzzle on this solid is an excellent idea. ETA: Shapeways is sending the puzzle early. It is now scheduled for delivery on March 14 (Pi Day).

I would like to see someone mod this into a tetrahedron That would result in a world record: the puzzle with the most cuts per face

Well to make it into a tetrahedron wouldn't the cuts need to be deeper? There's a challenge for you designers; a deeper cut edge turning rhombic triacontahedron

Is this a deep-cut puzzle? Joking aside, I think it must be one of the most shallow-cut puzzles I've ever seen ... unless you can think of another? And another possible record - the smallest stickers, with those iddy biddy ones on each face?

What about a babyface cube? Those cuts are very shallow, of course there are other cuts on the cube, so I'm not sure how you define shallow-cut puzzle. Great work Greg! This is a puzzle that I would get and just look at because it looks so nice.

What about a babyface cube? Those cuts are very shallow, of course there are other cuts on the cube, so I'm not sure how you define shallow-cut puzzle. Great work Greg! This is a puzzle that I would get and just look at because it looks so nice. Babyfaces aren't shallow cut, a baby face 3x3x3 is the same as a cornerless 5x5x5 with the faces shaved down.

The two smallest pieces are at the bottom right. There are 30 of the diamond-shaped pieces and 120 of the arrow-shaped pieces to be stickered. Basically, I'm going to get my money's worth just from the assembly and stickering. Attachment:
