not a sensation, but I wanted to try it out:
Stickers showing a QR Code (a 2D- barcode) on each side of a 3x3x3 cube.
If you sticker a cube carefully with not too much gaps between the pieces, it is still possible to read the code.
I used a V-Cube - this puzzle works very exact.
The pixels shown on the code are unfortunately not divisable by 3 in all cases: the resolution of the 2d code
depends on the lenght of the coded information. Anyway I managed it to find a fitting resolution for the cuts.
Because I had some faces with more, some with less text, the pixels are of different size.
This helps(?) solving it. To make it reasonably easier, I decided to print one side with blue stickers.
Knowing a little bit about the QR code structure, it might be able to find the right position of the pieces.
One issue will remain: the correct orientation of the centers.
