Hi, I'd like to show you my new puzzle - Wolf & Sheep cube. This is only prototype but allows you to understand idea. This regular 3x3x3 Rubik's cube, wolves and sheep live there. You should keep all animals in harmony and avoid situation when wolf and sheep stay together, these states are impossible. Wolves and sheep set restrictions when you solve the cube. Enjoy! Video: Wolf & Sheep cube--------------------------------------------------------- I'm looking for a designer who can help create 3D-model of this cube. I already have idea how it should be, only need to implement. Does anybody want to cooperate? Please send me pm. --------------------------------------------------------- Thank you, Vladimir Yaroslavskiy

Can a wolf and sheep be on the same face as long as they are not directly next to each other?

Yes, wolf and sheep can be on the same face if they are not directly next to each other, see the pictures 1-4.
Only one restriction: wolf and sheep cannot be together directly.

This is a great and fun idea. The only problem with it is that you don't have any reference weather you did the solve according to the rules or not, except your own attention. An implementation of the concept in the form of a mechanism that locks the entire puzzle as long as wolf and sheep are next to each other (except for the very one face that was moved last and caused the situation) seems impossible.
But really interesting. I can't figure out if it's difficult or easy to sovle by only looking at it.

Are the sheep/wolves solved automatically when the colours are solved? I hope not otherwise there would be not much point. Better would be to have two different solved states - colours and sheep/wolves - don't you think? But I still like the concept.

With wolves on the edges and sheep on the corners this is actually really easy to implement It could even be made by modding, no printing you just need to make groove bumps on the sheep corners and groove recievers on the whole cube except on the wolf edges It's like a mayan cube but normal edges are the fully cut ones and wolf edges would be normal edges, whilst sheep corners are the big corners and other corners are regular.

By my understanding this would not give quite the same concept. I thought sheep an wolf may pass each other but not stay next to each other. In that case your mechanism would inhibit 180° moves when two 90° moves (one in each direction) are forbidden but the other side is ok. However if the cubies may not even pass each other, your idea is infact an easy way to make it. I guess concerning wolves and sheep passing is just as forbidden as staying but from the description of the idea I was thinking staying is forbidden only.

Yes, there can be two versions of the cube
1. Allow wolf and sheep pass each other 2. Don't allow this
The first version is easier for implementation. I investigated this situation when playing with the W&S cube and found that case happens very rare (because we have few animals).

Hi, I'd like to present the implementation of Wolf & Sheep/Goat & [Lettuce/Cabbage] cube. The 3D model was created by Gregoire Pfennig. This is a kit which allows you to create any case with all or some characters. This kit contains the 3-rd character - Cabbage suggested by Evgeniy in Animal cube. There can be many variants of cube: 2 or 3 sheep + 2-3 wolves, or sheep + wolves + lettuce(s) or sheep + lettuce(s). I provided pictures and videos of 2 of them. Enjoy! See my video Wolf & Sheep and Wolf & Sheep & Lettuce cubes. Thank you, Vladimir

If grigr doesn't mind then I will use these images for the yet missing article in the museum. Very nice images. EDIT: Spelling mistake.
