Hmm, I thought the prototype (the all orange ones) were 5 layers. I wonder why they changed them.

In what possible way is this an April's Fools Day joke? The puzzles have been talked about before, and prototypes have been seen before too. Why would this be a joke?

The preorder page has 3 layer and 5 layer standard and crazy 3 layer, but I don't see the crazy 5 layer from the earlier picture (or is that the "Super 5 Layers"). These look like fun, but how to choose just a couple of planets?

First, coloured plastic! Yay!
Second, would someone mind explaining all the variants to me? I guess what I mean is: Is there a method they came up with to make the face types on the 8 planet variants?
On nowstore, I see
Super 5-Layers Pentahedron Standard 5-Layers Standard 3-Layers Then crazy pentahedron of all 8 planets, but some planets are priced higher than others
Calvin, will there be a (rather large) discount for those who buy all 11 puzzles together? That's an awful lot of money otherwise.

These look nice but expensive. Most average people don't have the money at their disposal to get the whole set-especially when it's essentially buying the same puzzle just different configurations. Not as pricey as the crazy megaminx but still up there. Purchasing 1 or 2 might be in order though.

Hmm...nice, except that I never took a fancy to solid colours. They make the puzzle more expensive. Nonetheless, I have to admit that this is great! This is one step closer to mass-producing the pentagonal prism: http://twistypuzzles.com/cgi-bin/puzzle.cgi?pkey=464 .

Last two series of planets was so hard to edit and enter in the museum that I am really afraid about this one.
Any volunteers: Who will be the one to buy them all and make images for me?

I’m really not upset about the colored plastic as I do like it with some puzzles and the circle/crazy puzzles seem to work well this way. What I don’t care for is the pillowed shape. The only time I really accept pillowing is when it is needed for the stability of the puzzle. These don’t need it. I do understand why so many manufactures like to pillow triangular shapes as it does reduce the overall size of the puzzle (less plastic used, lower packaging and shipping costs) but I still prefer the non-pillowed ones instead.

No stickers peeling off, and the plastic shines up really nicely after a while.

Does anyone know whether the "standard" (non-circle) version is a special edition, or a regular production? I can't afford to get one right now, and it's the only one I'm interested in. I hope it will be available later...

Hi Andrea,
thank you for sharing this program with us. Have you ordered the complete set? (11 puzzles) So far, I ordered the 3 special puzzles and wait for opinions which of the planets are the more interesting versions.

Hi Konrad, Konrad wrote: Have you ordered the complete set? (11 puzzles) I'm unsure. It's a lot of money for a poor girl. I wrote the program to check how interesting are these puzzles. The puzzles are very interesting and beautifull. But I want TomZ's 446, too. Perhaps I order the 8 Planets. To learn this puzzle it's good to use the standard without circles, I think. Cheers, Andrea

Perhaps the easiest are "Standard" and "Jupiter"
Solution with 4 Sequences
1) Corners 3 cycle b D b D'
2) middle layer E R E' R ( 3 cycle) ( E b E'b) x 3 -> flip 2 edges
3) edges 3 cycle (R U R U') x 5
Notation: B L R ( Turn back, left , right outer face) b l r ( Turn coresponding vertices) U U' D D' E E' ( horizontal layer ) Z ( upside down) y ( turn prism)
Hi Andrea
I've used completely different sequences to yours and a different method I think, more a reduction type method. (I'm assuming your spoiler is for standard, not jupiter? So my "reduction" method is for mercury and jupiter so far.) I'd say mercury's easier than jupiter so far. EDIT: No it's not.
I want to thank you again for providing this to play with. It's fantastic! A couple of requests: can the reset button have a keystroke attached, and also how hard is it to enable the puzzle to freely rotate so that there can be, say, a face at front, instead of an edge? I guess then there would need to be the ability to enter F turns as well.

Hi rline, rline wrote: (I'm assuming your spoiler is for standard, not jupiter?) The solution in in spoiler works for standard and jupiter. On jupiter first step solve intuitive the inner circles, then corners, then the rest. (edit) With one more sequence you can solve the Uranus: ( alternative corner 3 cycle without destroying circle edges)
R U R U R U' R U
rline wrote: A couple of requests: can the reset button have a keystroke attached, and also how hard is it to enable the puzzle to freely rotate so that there can be, say, a face at front, instead of an edge?
It is possible. Than I must write the program complete new. ( With opengl 3d) I programed with this funktionality ( 3d , free rotating , mouse input etc) for Bermuda Cubes. In the thread "Solving Bermuda Cubes" No people are interested for this. No reply in this thread. The Pentahedrons I cannot program with opengl. It's to complex. There are round (spherical) pieces. You can use vetices turns l b r or z ( upside down) But a new graphical position is to complex. Cheers, Andrea PS: solved prisms with simulator Standard, Jupiter , Uranus, Mercury

Hi everybody, someone asked me, to include 5 layer to the pentahedron. Ok, I did this. I put the pentahedron, bermuda and circlecube/cuboid345 together in one program. I wrote it to a different thread because it's not the right place here, I think. look at http://twistypuzzles.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&p=280283#p280283much fun Cheers, Andrea
