A while back I released my Mini Starminx. A puzzle that initially seemed to work very well. However, at this small size printing proved too unreliable and many people were disappointed with versions that did not turn at all like mine. Due to this reason I had to disappoint more people by telling them they could not order one.

Due to popular demand, I have now made a larger Starminx. It's edge length is 30mm, up from 25mm. At 30mm it is just the right size, about the same size as a regular Megaminx. This one works very well right out of the box, requiring little breaking in. I have printed two so far and they both work very well.
The larger size has allowed me to make the mechanism more sturdy. I've also connected the floating corner pieces to the internal corners, making the puzzle slightly more stable. Thanks to the larger size we will also see less sticker issues.

(Please excuse me reusing pictures from the Mini Starminx, but I didn't take any pictures and I don't have a copy at hand right now but I did want to get the news out. Rest assured the video is of the real thing.)

Due to the larger size, this version is slightly more expensive, but it is still only $145/€125 in WSF! BSF or WSF polished is only $160/€135. And for one month, you will get the stickers for free!
Purchase a Starminx at my puzzle shop!

Well done Tom. Recently I've really been getting into the Starminx series (yesterday I solved the Starminx II, now I'm working my way through the regular Starminx), and so now this is a must for my collection. :D

Out of curiosity, how small do you believe the Starminx II (edge turning) could be made?

This is great! :D I'm going to be trying to design a starminx, because I want to better understand the shell mech. :D

Definitely nice to see it available again!

As a big fan of your puzzles and the owner of two Mini Starminx (the second as a free Shapeways replacement, because the first turned really badly), I may consider getting a third.
In any case, this looks really good :D

I recollect that you wrote somewhere, that you are planning a bigger version of the Pentultimate. Maybe, I'll wait for that one as well and then get them together? :) (As I have said, I'm a big - if not the biggest - fan of TomZ puzzles  )

Excellent redesign Tom. This is a fantastic puzzle and it's great that more people will once again have an opportunity to own one. :D

It's also good that you designed it larger because of the larger stickers. I lost my first starminx tip sticker yesterday, and I'm still looking for it.

50mm edge length is pretty much the minimum. It's a very tricky puzzle, the parts get really tiny very quickly.

.. and I still can only emphasize, that I am really very happy with my Mini version.
I showed it to Tom and from his point of view it is similar to better to his own one :)

But if the Mini won't be produced anymore I should order some more stickers for replacement soon!

Great job! Could you please collaborate with Uwe to have the Curcy Copter II mass produced also. I'd love that. Just ordered a normal curvy one ...

Thanks,

Per

The turning quality seems great!
Glad to see you perfecting your design.
