Adam Cowan and Uwe Meffert have teamed up once again to bring you truly beautiful versions of the Ghost Cube. I suspect they will be limited editions since the production cost is very highly and Uwe won't be making any profit on these. Details / purchase here- Metalised Ghost Cubes.

If I had known that these were coming I would not have bothered ordering one of the other ones. As it is, I can't afford to purchase multiple versions of the same puzzle these days so I will have to pass on these.

Good things come to those who wait, ey Jack hehe ;)

I wonder when they will get shipped, but for this I will settle with my nervousness about the 45 paypal days :)

Actually, they are only $32.40 for Jade Club members instead of $39. I'm not sure if this is a price mistake or not. And once again, the Jade Club doesn't indicate that it is a pre-order so I'm not sure if it is or not.

I'm not really a big fan of the Ghost Cube but those blue and purple ones are pretty damn nice looking.

I'll change my text. However Uwe told me ""The single subsidized price for the metalized version will be US$39.00 on the Mefferts site and unchanged for JadeClub Members"

I'm pretty sure that they made a mistake on the Jade site: I ordered a metalised blue version for $36 -10% = 32.40
The same puzzle costs $39 on the Meffert's .
I ordered a stickered version on March 13th through Jade site for the same price ($32.40).
While the 10% off is usual, the base price is always the same on the two sites.
I guess that Tony is correct and they intended a $39 price (- 10%) for Jade club members.
I'll try to contact Uwe.

@mike45, how could you waste a "lot of money" due to misleading information?
The credit of 10% is usual. You are not talking about this 10%, do you?

I've tried contacting mefferts thru the contact page with a question a day or two since the pre-order began for the other ghost cubes. But never get a response, unless there are other ways of contacting them. good luck.

Purchased all four of these within minutes of their release. Cannot wait to see these beautiful puzzles. I hope the plating is comparable to that of the Golden Cube.

How durable is the plating on the golden cube? Is the plating going to make it an "at home" cube instead of one I want to bring around for fear of messing the plating up terribly?

I have no idea, these will be the first of this type of puzzle I own, but I suspect I will treat them very gently, toy make sure they don't get scratched.

My birthday is coming up, so the pack of four is one of my presents. Thanks for releasing them exactly now, Uwe! Also, they look incredible. I had a cance to play with an original, so I imagine these versions will be even better.

Hi All,

Sorry if the price difference between the Jadeclub and Meffert's site caused some confusion, as that was most definitely not our intention.

*Special thanks to Konrad for bring this to our attention.*

To clear things up, there were no mistakes in the price listings. The metallised ghost cubes in the Meffert's shop are selling for $39, with us subsidising most of the extra costs.
For the Jade Club however, we decided to subsidise the full metallising cost and are selling them at the same $36 base price as the stickered ghost cubes. This is our way of trying to give something special back to the community once or twice every year, even if we lose money by doing so.

@imike45
The contact us form on our website should be working but you can also try to contact us directly using:

(Sorry about using an image but those harvesters are getting more tenacious now)

If you are a Jadeclub member and ordered from the Meffert's shop, first just send us an email using the address associated with your Jadeclub account with your order number and we can refund you the difference or if you wish give, you a full refund and you can place your order from the Jadeclub directly.

I ordered both complete sets through the Meffert's site because the JadeClub website is completely unusable with a screen reader. How would I go about finding my order numbers so I can get the discount? Could I also request an upgrade to EMS shipping by contacting you via that e-mail?

I'm a mechanism guy so to by brain these are just 3x3x3's. I also generally prefer doctrinaire shapes if they are available. So till now these have been easy to pass on. Particularly the ones with the stickers and they serves no point to me. However these just look SO nice that I'm so tempted to get these. The pictures I've seen till now aren't as nice as Tony's and I believe those have pushed me over the edge.

I had been wondering what metalized blue and purple would look like. In the pictures on Meferts you can't tell they are as reflective as they are. Anyone know how these finishes are obtained?

Also these remind me of this project.
http://twistypuzzles.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=26535
Was that cancelled or is it still on-going? I only remember seeing pictures of the originals.

I'm likely to get the set of all four and mix the pieces up between them to get something that looks close to the metal version Adam offered.

I am a jade club member, and these puzzles don't show up for order when I log in. Are they only being released to some Jade members? Or were they pulled off the Jade Club site?

I do see the stickered ghost cubes, but not the new metallic versions.

It really depends on what company mefferts went with for the metalization. The metal layer itself is only a few atoms thick, similar to the metal coating on a mirror. What really matters is the protective coating on top of the metal, which also gives them their color. Hopefully it is a rather thick coating, but it will likely scratch and expose the plastic of you drop it.

All,

I got an email from Mefferts which stated:
Quote:
For the Metallized version we had to modify the molds and at the same time remove the two missed shrink marks that Dan Fast had noticed during unboxing.
The same email has a link to Dan Fast's unboxing video. I didn't see anything about the missing shrink marks. Anyone know what this is talking about? I don't understand why the molds would need to be modified for the metallized versions. The same email goes on to state:
Quote:
Also after the Metallized blanks have been completed I will need to change the molds back to normal with automatic gate trimming.
Can someone PLEASE educate me on this topic. I have no idea what automatic gate trimming is or why its needed here.

Thanks,
Carl

I think I know what this about. Take a look at this photo:

If you look on top of the triangular corner piece on the top face you might be able to see a small dip in the piece. Perhaps this is one of the "shrink marks" that is being referred to.
As for automatic gate trimming, I have no idea.

So he must do some work to remove small dips in the surface caused by shrinking that are easily noticed in the metalized versions? That could make sense, but WHY must they be put back for the stickered versions? I really think he's talking about something else but I'm not familiar enough with injection molding to have a clue what it might be.

The gate is the part where the injection of plastic into the mold was done. This area is usually sharp and/or has a little string of plastic left behind. Most businesses that do injection molding trim this area for safety and appearance. It can also interfere with further processing of the part if its not trimmed properly. This is the first instance I've heard of where trimming the gate causes problems but it kind of makes sense to me. It's possible the way they are trimmed could cause small surface cracks that the metalising process can't deal with properly. This might lead to pealing which would be really bad. I believe that the modification to the molds for the stickered versions is around the gate area to allow trimming. The modifications to take care of the sinks should be permanent. They are probably caused by warm spots in the mold so it would require changing the cooling channels or physically slowing the machine to allow for a longer cooling phase. If the plastic isn't fully set when they open the material can move. That's my theory on it anyway...

Hello,
I have just noticed something and was wondering if anyone might have an answer.

On jadeclub.org, when the stickered ghost cubes were announced, you were able to buy the package of all 4 variants, and were eligible for a 5th limited, signed ghost cube.

When checking back, it appears that the offer for the free signed cube is available with the purchase of all 4 metallic ghost cubes, and no longer with the purchase of the 4 stickered cubes. Is this accurate, or is this perhaps a formatting issue where this offer has been shifted when adding the new images and text.

I am wondering as I ordered the 4 pack of metallic cubes from mefferts.com, and would be sad to have missed this offer.

Thanks.

I purchased mine a few weeks ago. Very excited. Does anyone know when they will be ready to ship? And this was also my first purchase through the Meffert's website and I received no verification other than the PayPal payment verification. Can an experienced Meffert's customer let me know if this is how ordering usually is or if I should have gotten an email from Meffert's confirming my purchase?

Thanks

From what I understood it is an exception when you get an email ever, except from paypal saying you ordered something. I never got anything either.

Wait and see.

Can an experienced Meffert's customer let me know if this is how ordering usually is or if I should have gotten an email from Meffert's confirming my purchase?

Thanks
I just get a Paypal confirmation with the details of my purchase.
And then I get my puzzles - always :D

I noticed these are "sold out" on HKNowstore even though they are still a pre-order. Does anyone know why? :?

Because each part of the promo picture doesn't always get updated.

I think you are right with the formatting issue, but if you read correctly, you'll see that it is specifically mentioned :

If you buy all 4 of the following labels one, you will receive the Matt Gold very limited edition free(whilst stocks last) + Uwe's Signature.
(Maybe the text was changed after your post  )

Tony,
Can Uwe reproduce your Golden cubes with the same metalised finish?
That would be so cool!
Can you ask him?
