I proudly present the world’s first and only Fully Functional Siamese 3x3x3 Cubes. This is the first result of the prototype Rentlix built for me in July. Unlike The Creature however, this puzzle is fully printed in WSF from Shapeways with all 49 pieces dyed black. The stickers are from Dr-Sticker (I expected slightly smaller ones but because I will not sell this puzzle, it doesn’t really matter). As for the quality of the puzzle, the outer 3x3x3 turns work great along with the intermixing cuts. Sadly however, when two layers are turned on a 3x3x3 portion the movement is not as great but it's ok. Most importantly, the pieces do not fall out during mid rotation. Now, the pictures! Attachment:

It is impossible to do this pattern on normal siamese cubes. Attachment:

Very cool, but the stickering is making me cry! Can't you cut them down a bit, we're talking 90 degree angles here, nothing too complex. Pretty please? Dave

I'm really impressed that you got this to work, and this puzzle has been on my "Want to build" list for a very long time.
However...
PLEASE get proper stickers for it. This looks just horrendous.

mind blowing! truly groundbreaking! What mechanism could it be using? I have no clue at all!
I am will go ahead and agree with the others, New stickers, and a video please!
WHY will you not sell it?
I have never been the big fan of siamese cubes, but with these. I am pretty much in love!

This is insane, beautiful puzzle, but this puzzles deserves more fitting stickers. I would try the F2 stickers. Or trim them yourself But well, this is an amazing puzzle Good job! Alex

Muffet wrote: I think he has heard enough about the stickers guys It's fine. They aren't that bad when your holding it. It looks kinda like colored plastic. Thank you everyone for the kind words. As soon as the stickers are fixed, I will add new pictures and possibly a video. I am taking things slow because I hope to work on mass-production. Thanks again for the great comments! Edt: Grrr! I can't solve the second half.

Wow, great to see this puzzle is finally alive! The overlarge stickers don't actually look that bad; However I do agree with the others, that you should either wait until you have a video, to post a puzzle. I for one would like to see the turning quality. Out of interest, is this design with screws/springs, and therefore can cut corners, or is it a groove mechanism?? sj PS I personally think that this puzzle made from a '2x2x3' Siamese cubes would be alot more practical; it would have a lot less pieces and would probably be more stable. Will you be building one?

Great proof of concept, whatever concept that may be Can't wait for V2 EDIT: I wonder how many different solved states this puzzle has o.O Can two edges that have the same stickers (identical pieces) be switched (and everything else stays the same)?

Thanks so much for the video! Glad to see the issue with the pieces falling out is resolved.

Fixing the falling out problem with magnets is cheating in my book. But still, nice puzzle.

The magnets keep this version held together like on a super x. As a result, this version didn't need the locking mechanism. I promise when I finish the v2 in a few weeks it will use the locking mechanism I originally designed; no magnets.

The super-X is not held together by magnets in any way. it simply stabilizes the mechanism. If the magnets keep the puzzle from falling apart in your puzzle (which i suspect that they do) it is a very different situation than the super-X

Finally came across this! As one of those few who know the mechanism, I look at this and, rather than thinking 'what an awesome puzzle!', I think, 'What took so long?' I can vouch for him- the magnets are just one quick solution to one of the problems. The magnets are not necesary and, with just more time put into the mechanism, there would be no need.
Clever mechanism and good work nonetheless. I would comment on the stickering, but I don't want to be a hypocrite.
