The modification on the left of my picture was finished in the latest batch of puzzles.
Their boring but systematic names are:
SharpCorners8800101000 and
SharpCorners8800101000Extended
Can anybody help me with giving them better names?

Fantastic as always Andreas. When a made the puzzle on the left in July 2009 I used the name Stretchex since I stretched out the top and bottom of the puzzle. I believe they look the same. Well done.

I'm just wondering because I've seen a lot of weird code-type things. Like settings for a program maybe? I'm not sure

It's a textual encoding of the geometry of the puzzle. Andreas came up with the encoding method a while ago and he's the only one (as far as I know) who completely understands it. Basically, just believe that the number and the puzzle correspond.

292 variants but one dozen or so are not made by me.Perfectly true. I want to mention that the encoding method somewhat change with the category. So SharpCorners8800101000 is something different than SharpEdges8800101000.
