Hi Twisty Puzzles fans,

AntiCube was suggested by Jason Smith. It has the geometry of a square antiprism. This twisty puzzle has ten turning faces: two square and eight triangular. It has only edge pieces, which turn over and under each other in unexpected ways.

Quite a lot of fudging was needed to make this puzzle design work, as the radius of rotation is different for the square and triangular faces. Also, the edges of the pieces are razor-sharp in order to make the puzzle "water-tight". This makes the turning a bit awkward, as the sharp edges of the pieces tend to cut into each other.

I have also tried to give this puzzle corner pieces, but I could not find a fudged solution that worked. So instead I elongated the edge pieces to cover the corner space.

Another great puzzle Oskar. When you say you had to do some “fudging” I bet that phrase covers up a lot of effort!

By the way have you seen the site http://homepage.mac.com/dmccooey/polyhedra/? It has the 3D data for a LOT of solids. I’m sure that there is something in there which will feed your imagination.

Nice!!! Any chance you could show a picture of what this would look like if it had corners? I'm having a hard time seeing how you could seperate a corner from an edge with a twist on this puzzle.

And without 3 colored corners I wonder if this puzzle could be solved to its mirror image state? I.e. this puzzle may have two solution states.

It kind of turns like a helicopter cube. Is that the mech?

A Helicopter Cube is an edge turning cube, where as this is a face turning sqaure anti prism. The Helicopter Cube has twelve core ams with the geometry of a rhombic dodecahedron, where as this puzzle has ten arms.
