This is Lotus! It was formerly called Dunce, but I decided to change the name after seeing the checkeboarded pattern. Lotus is designed off of a rhombihedron and is mechanically a curvy cut vertex turning triangular antiprism. It had one very stupid design flaw that I was able to fix on my own, but my hand fixed job created a loose puzzle. When I was designing my pins, I apperantly made the stalk long enough to go through the center piece and flush to the outside of the core. i.e. The pins arn't long enough to go into the core. As a result, I created my own pins. I will be gone for over a week (Vacation!) and will add 3mm to the pins and upload my revision. Till then, here is the "Lotus!" Attachment:

And it has it's own place on my shelf! Attachment:

I have one video, but I leave in a few hours and I still need to pack and catch my plan If I don't get it up, it will be a while.

Great puzzle!
Isn't a triangular antiprism the same as an octahedron? I'm pretty sure I figured this out the long way in solidworks (designing both, and then going "Hey, they look exactly the same!").
I love the checkerboard! Is this mech the same as a 3x3? Or are the arms of the spider not all perpendicular?

This is really cool and fits perfectly into the competition idea. I really would love one of these and can afford to buy one! Alex

Forgive me if I am wrong but i believe it is a 3x3, on which I am quite impressed and I really do love this puzzle, it's brilliant.

I really like this puzzle, it is some serious eye candy.
Can I ask what the unstickerd puzzle is in your last photo? shallow cut 24 cube?

Eric, it looks to me like a compy cube + 3x3

I'd be tempted to agree it is a 3x3x3 but that really is an impressive looking 3x3x3 if it is. Checkerboard pattern is astonishing. gingervergo wrote: Can I ask what the unstickerd puzzle is in your last photo? shallow cut 24 cube? Considering it's striking visual similarity to gelatinbrain 3.3.6 i'd like to think gingervergo is right but as Garret pointed out those cuts could be a compy + 3x3x3. Either would be amazing.

An octahedron is a triangular antiprism. A regular triangular antiprism is an octahedron. This puzzle appears to be (someone correct me if I am wrong) a stretched out triangular antiprism (not with equilateral triangles). I guess this because the "edge" pieces don't seem to constitute the same angle around the rotation axis. This would make it combinatorially a different puzzle than rubiks cube. It is a very pretty puzzle either way.
