I just want to show my custom-made 5x5x5 with 8 corners 2x2x2 (Eastsheen cubes).

It's the first custom 5x5x5 + 2x2x2 cube I've seen on the web, so I think mine is the first.

I decided to name it Fortress Cube due to its shape.

The size of pieces is the same, so I had this idea. It took me a lot of time!

Video on Youtube:

Interests on buying it, please contact me.

Thanks! :)

That is the bestest thing I've ever seen, ever!

That is such a good idea, must be pretty hard to solve!

Seriously, Brilliant work

Very nice, I was also thinking of something like this but with eight 3x3s around another 3x3. Still it looks great and I love the name Fortress Cube!

Sorry, but ideas are cheap, full credit goes to fbgrac for taking the initiative to build it. As they say, genius is 1% inspiration, 99% perspiration.

I think of a more fitting quote of Lou Kahn: "The great idea that never happens is no idea at all."

I'm curious about how many permutations (combinations) does this cube have. I don't know if I can just consider as Perm(5x5x5) * Perm(2x2x2)^8 or if it has symmetries because of the joined 2x2x2s. I know that Perm(2x2x2) don't consider the 2x2x2 cube rotations (any of 6 top color on a cube alone is the same solution, for example), but do I have to consider this due to the joined 5x5x5? Or is it already on the formula concept?
If someone could help me on this, I'll be glad.
Thanks

if i'm right the 2x2s can't be switch with another one so i think that the combination is
Perm(5x5x5) * Perm(2x2x2)^8

but i could be wrong

You're right, you can't switch the 2x2x2s. Each corner of a 5x5x5 is different and each corresponding 2x2x2 is missing exactly the opposite corner.

Where id you find a 5x5x5 with the same cubie size as a 2x2x2? Wait, to solve this, you first solve the 2x2'sand than the 5x5, right? Also I like the first pic where one 2x2 seems to be missing.

well they are the 24mm mini 2x2s and the es 5x5 has the exact same cubie length

Thanks for all the explanations. :D
So, the total number of permutations, if I'm not wrong, are: 9.394 x 10^126
Just for comparison, the number of V-Cube 6x6x6 permutations are: 1.572 x 10^116 (less)

The Eastsheen 2x2x2 Keychain pieces are the same size than Eastsheen 5x5x5. And you have to solve first the 8 corners to know corner orientations on the 5x5x5, but you can solve all the rest normally.
The intention of the first picture really was to confuse, so I tried to "hide" the corner.

Wow. I just looked at that first picture and noticed what you did. Weird.
