Ever since I saw Adam's copy I've been itching to attain one. so I designed and printed masters.
-This puzzle was cast using Smooth Cast 300.
-60mm per edge.
-Fairly solid, fun to turn.
-uses a v-style mech to make sure the parts are firmly anchored to the dino centers.

Looks like I could play with this one. Adam's is sitting on the shelf nearly all the time.
Beautiful!

Amazing. But how did you applied the V-cube mechanism to it?

Can't go wrong with a cat who'll stay still so long you'd think she's dead until she hears food.
ok back on topic
Nice SuperX, How much did it cost for the masters?

The pieces were made from FDM masters, solvent smoothed and sanded again. I spent about $400 with the intention to only cast the exterior edge pieces, but I ended up making molds for all the parts. in case I decided to make a second or third copy.

as for the squishy, this build isn't so much squishy as it likes to slide around as you make multiple turns. it will start cubic, then as you make 4-5 turns you'll notice things getting misaligned. but the long feet really help keep all the pieces attatched. its really easy to fix, and the puzzle even turns well if its "squished"

I guess thast just the inherent nature of this puzzle mechanism

Is that a hint that it isn't very sturdy? Is it better than Adam's?

And I would also like to see a video of both the white and the black one as well.

its sturdy, but i'll wait for a direct comparison before I comment. it can slide out of shape easily, but pieces cannot be removed or fall out accidentally

Just remember folks, that this is one of those puzzles that can be made by hand, as has already been demonstrated. If you're itching to own one, you could certainly do worse than make your own. However Drewseph's mastery of making cats really is second to none.

so are these pretty much a dino cube mech with a deep 2x2 mech, or something very different?

IMO, it's only one puzzle-the super-x. Denying the puzzle it's originality and merely referring to it as a cross between a 2x2 and a Dino is equivalent (to me at least) to calling an airplane a brid crossed with a car. Note that solving a super-x is nothing like solving a 2x2 or a dino cube.

Anyway, this looks excellent! This makes me wish even more that I could get to a Boston meetup. Please have another one over the summer!

i believe that by 3 puzzles in one he believes you can just mix up the corners and use it as a dino cube, or vice versa for a 2x2, or turn both so its the super x

I'll distract both of his ninja cats on the left with some string while one of you swipe them. Replace them with the normal 3x3x3's and then run before the cats on the right catch you. Whos in?

Took me three days on the gelitin brain solutions thing. Solution: Solve the bottom color, solve the top, solve the middle. I only needed one algorithm.

Steryne wrote:

I don't mean to derail the thread, but that way is going to be horribly inefficient. You're better off starting from the bottom and working your way up.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86YCpXRBoag
Note how few moves he uses starting from the bottom and working up without that appearing to be a lucky solve. I believe that this is the guy with the 39 move record.

Sorry for the thread derailment, I just can't help myself sometimes
