Check out this puzzle from Hendrik Haak's puzzle shop museum site:
Looks like solving would be same as regular megaminx, but the coloration and shape are different though. I wonder if these are for sale anywhere or if it is a custom made thing.
I saw that picture and also became curious. It looks like it moves just the same as a regular megaminx, but the triangular pieces on the "ball" which correspond to the corner pieces on the megaminx could be twirled with no visible effect. So it would be easier to solve the "ball". (As long as the colours dont confuse you too much). My Mefferts megaminx has stickers with visible grains in them. So you can solve the puzzle and then rotate centres if necessary so that the puzzle is in the exact same position as it was when you 1st laid eyes on it. I like puzzles like that better than ones which have many "correct" positions, eg like the dogic, big cubes...
You were right Wayne. I contacted Hendrik and he said it was made by a friend of his, Jürgen Brandt in Germany. He made them out of an actual megaminx and there are only two in existence - Hendrik has one and Jürgen has the other. It is definitely not for sale.
