I had this idea for a while before I took the time to come up with a working sticker pattern for it.

It's certainly similar in idea to the Qubami, which came out while I had Dr. Sticker furiously printing. As each of these 108 stickers is about 3.5mm tall, you can see how the accuracy of his stickers shines.

Hopefully some of those reading this are smiling by now, recognizing the origin of the idea for the stickers. For those who aren't smiling because they don't recognize it, I point you here: SET, the family game of visual perception. (For those who are not smiling for a different reason, you're on your own, I suppose). In the solved position, every row, column, and diagonal on a face is a set, as are the three surfaces on any corner. So, in total, there are 56 sets that must be satisfied to solve the cube - 8 are, of course, freebies. I'm not sure why my pictures came out with red, green, and blue stickers - I assure the curious reader that the purple stickers are, indeed, purple.

I am not sure how many solved positions there are on this cube, although I suspect there is only one.

Woohoo! I love SET. I guess you could play the cube like you play the game .

What a great idea! I love Set, and I think I'm going to try this on my own.

Brilliant sticker mod!

The Set Cube?
Cool!
Isn't this just a Quibami, though?

Technically not, because Qubami only has two attributes per "sticker" - Color and Shape. This has Color, Shape, and Number.

I thought about this as I was putting it together, and I don' think so.
There are of course lots of minor differences (the properties of diagonals,
the three attributes instead of two, etc.), but I think the major difference
is this: In a three-attribute Qubami, for any sticker, there are
8(?) possible pairs of other stickers that can form a line with it.
However, with Squiggles, for any sticker, there are 13(?) pairs
of other stickers. If I required that a set formed on squiggles
had all attributes different, instead of different or the same, then
it would be much more like a Qubami.

In any case, I built it mostly because I think it looks gorgeous, not
for the fun I'd have solving it.

I got excited when my wife came home with the "Set Cubed" game, where you have a bunch of dice and roll them like Boggle and race to call out sets. I so totally have to get one of these! do you have the SET stickers available??
I'll buy 3 sets!! AWESOME mod!

Finally found a link to what I mentioned above, was going to edit but I guess it's been too long. I thought you had made a dice &magnet Cube from this... http://www.setgame.com/set_cubed/index.htm :o

Very nice, I like it. The concept is quite similar to Qubami, and should be just as difficult to solve, but I agree it's not exactly the same. With Qubami I used symmetric symbols so they always stay the same way up and their orientation doesn't give away any clues to the solution, but I like the way you used the symbols from another game that many people seem to know and like. Well done!

I start analyzing pictures again trying to figure out if there is another solution.
So you removed one attribute form the game - "Shading", and instead of 3^4=81 cards, you've got only 3^3=27. And you used 2 sets of them to get 54, that you need for one cube 9*6=54.
I'm not sure where number 108 came from, unless you made 2 of them.
So you have two of each card, but they are mostly on different type of cube (center - 6, corner - 8, and middle - 12). In "Set" 2 cards define what is third, so it looks like, it should only be one solution.
I'd love to try to solve it :)

18 "Ones", 18 "Twos", and 18 "Threes" = 18 + 36 + 54 = 108 stickers. Each little shape is one sticker.

Now that looks likes an enthralling way to pass my time. Seeing now that I can solve picture and sudoku cubes, I don't really have a challenge anymore...

I'd definitely love to see the Qubami and this made as official sticker modifications of the original Rubik's Cube :P
