Made from a keyring-size Eastsheen 2x2x2. Basically a TrickHaus with 4 huge extensions.

It's slightly smaller than a standard 2x2x2 Eastsheen (approx 0.75mm shorter edge lengths), and Cubesmith stickers fitted ok on the square faces.

Some nice crazy shapes due to the big differences in piece sizes, but they have little impact on making it harder to solve :(

Very nicely done.

For a moment I thought of the "Trick Haus" when I saw the name.

When I first glanced at it I thought of Aleh's Kite Cube.

Very cool, I love shape mods. Even if it is a 2x2, I still love it.

Haha, I love it! The shapes it can make are really cool and the top face reminds me of one of those crazy UFO -> cube shape mods (can't remember the name). The "inside" of the really big extensions looks pretty nice and clean too.

A bit of cut and paste and a bit of extension with sheet.
I didn't really plan it that way - it started off as something different that failed. I was so disheartened, I was initially going to bin everything.

The small pieces required truncation of the mech. The bare mech had to be 'solved' with 2 pairs of pins in the vertical plane to allow truncation. Any more truncation beyond what I've done would affect the pins and the strength of the pieces. The plastic sheet glued on top of these small pieces also serves a useful task of strengthening all those filed down pieces which lie beneath it. I managed to remember to take some photos this time around :)

Justin,
I love this mod!
It reminds me of John Lin's off-centre cylinder, though it's not a cylinder of course!
Great job!

Fantastic idea!

It is simple but so very attractive. And you made a very clean build.
My full admiration, your 2x2x2 mods are always showing that there can be
another interesting design even with a simple mechanism.

Frank

P.S.: thanks for adding your Hex Box to my site. I'd love to see this one there, too.

I fully agree with Frank. Creativity can go a long way, as long as we use it!
And I am not sure which is better, the design, or its name!!!

Thanks for the positive comments :)

My last 4 mods have been 2x2x2s... I feel like I know the mini Eastsheen mech on a personal level!

Perhaps it's time to start cutting up 3x3x3s for a change.

I just love the way it jumbles! once again very beautiful finish with the plastic sheeting. Also, it's very cool it is almost the exact same size as a regular eastsheen 2x2x2.

For future reference: Technically, this puzzle does not jumble (by the commonly accepted definitions). To jumble means that mechanically different pieces go in different places like they can do on edge turning cube puzzles (helicopter, 24, rua/toru). I'm not posting this to be a jerk to you, Sjoerd but I want to clear up some confusion over shapeshifting/jumbling so people do not continue using the terms as equivalent.

You're not a jerk, you're telling me something completely new which I didn't know, and I'm glad you told me :) . I thought jumbling and shapeshifting meant the same.

Very nice Justin. I really like the 2x2 sides. And it's another excellent name.

So wait, I was confused too. I thought jumbling and shapeshifting meant the same thing.
Let me make an example; are you saying if a 3x3 could somehow jumble, then it would be possible for an edge piece to be swapped with a corner piece?

yes, and still be able to function

The checkerboard and other photos really show up the accuracy of this work.

Off topic: Can you give me any tips on disassembling the mini 2x2x2 :?: I know the full size one has one fixed piece and 7 cubies each attached with with a spring latch which can be accessed mid-turn, but I don't want to risk breaking the smaller one by experimenting. Thanks.

Similar concept as a regular ES 2x2x2, but you can't get access to push the latch.
Brute force is needed and sometimes part of the pin will break. I've removed these many times when making 2x2x2 mods and I'd say that about 1 in 20 break.

As with the bigger version, you need to do a midturn on the layers so the pins can be seen (as in the first photo) and then push the piece away from the camera. Stubborn pieces require a slight side-to-side jiggling movement and that's when they're likely to break.

The second photo shows the raised part of the pin that keeps it clipped in place. I like to file this down slightly to make repeated removal easier. I also file the latches slightly on my regular ES 2x2x2s.
If you overcook it on the filing, you can always glue it on.
