I vowed to myself that I wouldn't post this until it was entirely finished but I'm far too excited to wait. I just finished painting it, and it looks GREAT! The paint rubbed off in a few spots but I was planning on putting on a clear coat anyway, so that will be fixed. All that's left to do is to sticker it! Firstly, I would like to send out my many, many thanks to the twisty forum and its many builders. Before I was a member I would surf here looking for building tips, and without the help of all these great builders on here I would have never learned anything about molding, casting, alumilite, oomoo, milliput, and inscape, all of which I used in this mod. This is the first time I have ever molded and casted my own pieces, and everything is made entirely by hand, by me, from scratch. I got the idea one night lying in bed half asleep. About two weeks into drafting I came across Trajber's Octahedron, which has the same basic concept. Total build time has been over two months I've been very busy lately with school, GREs and grad school apps. I used inkscape to draft the pieces and made them out of stiff paper first to visualize the puzzle. Attachment:

I then used those same templates to make masters out of plastic sheet, which I then molded and cast Attachment:

More photos and video coming soon! I probably won't get around to stickering until late Friday night or Saturday. Edit: How do I embed the photos?

Very nice mod! It almost looks like you chopped a trabjer's octahedron in half!
I think this is the first 5-sided mod I've ever seen.

This is your second mod? Very Nice. May I ask what type of paint you used? I can't wait to see what's next.

It's a 3x3x3 mod. The centers of a normal 3x3 in this puzzle are the tip where 4 triangular sides come together, four middle pieces of edges and the center of the square bottom surface. Right?

A 3x3x3 tetrahedron?! That is one amazing and very unique mod. I can't imagine how long it took for you to mock up paper models.

Drew, hopefully this clears up some of your confusion. You can see all the imperfections here. I also need to fix the paint-- I was planning on putting on a clear coat this weekend anyway. Videos will come sometime this weekend when I get around to stickering the beast. And for those who asked, my first mod was a half-truncated cube. Pretty big leap huh? Maybe that's why it took me over two months to make I used Krylon Fusion paint which is made to be used on plastic, and plan to give a clear coat as well. The paint works great but rubs off rather easily. And this is how I made the paper pieces. I used inkscape to draft them. Btw, this is my version of "3D printing" Thanks everyone for the kind words and encouragement! I can't wait to get started on my next mod!

Yes, unfortunately Krylon Fusion only bonds to thermoplastics like PVC, ABS, styrene, acrylic, and others. It doesn't bond with thermoset plastics like Alumilite, Milliput, Magic Sculp, and Easycast because these plastics can't be chemically welded. It's certainly refreshing to see a puzzle built as a square pyramid. Uncommon. Nice indeed!

Wow this puzzle looks terrific!
On a side note, good luck with the GRE's. I do not fondly look back on that test at all.

Crazy. At first glance it looks like a Master Tetrahedron with an extra slice, or is it? I don't see how what I described could be made from a 3x3.

Fabulous puzzle, I really like it. I have only seen 1 square pyramid 3x3 mod before (Andreas Nortmann) Your second mod and you've already prompted a comment from Tony Fisher. Tony Fisher wrote: Simple, clever, very good.

Thanks, Bounb for mentioning my Cheops Cube: http://twistypuzzles.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3061I attached another picture with other, older "pyramid-shaped" 3x3x3s. @PaulWozniak: Let my 4 years old pictures be a warning for you to invest all time needed to put good stickers on it. It will be for the better good of your puzzle.
