Only?!? Aside from being difficult to build, I think the best part of the puzzle was coming up with the idea in the first place.

And yes, of course the idea was difficult, but on the building side the 5x5x5 mini ball is the only difficult part. I know that is a big only because the 5x5x5 mini ball I bet is very difficult to make, especially if you don't have one of those tumbling things that they usually use for spheres... but that is really all you have to do... after you make the ball the 4x4x4 pieces just need to be attached, which can be done in a few hours I wouldn't doubt, maybe a day.

Nevertheless, I'm not saying that it was an overall easy project, and it's a spectacular puzzle by Tony Fisher, I'm just trying to understand the puzzle. So it is in fact just 4x4x4 pieces attached to the 5x5x5 mini ball right? So far that's what the pictures have shown me and everyone has told me... I still don't see what makes some center moves impossible when solving it...

Guys, I meant that if he wanted a ball in cube, but bought a 5x5 mini ball instead, he could interchange some pieces and have the ball in cube (and then he could interchange them back if he wanted the ball again.)

I don't think that will work though. If you look at pictures of it partially turned, the hidden 5x5 edges are still intact, I don't think any part of the ball is removed.

Wow, I can't believe I didn't notice that.

The Mini 5x5x5 Ball has 5 layers of rotation in all dimensions (all moves work). However the Ball in a Cube has only 4 layers of rotation making it much harder than the Ball.
It is right to say that you 'only' need to build the Ball (though with unmodified spider) to own a Ball in a Cube. However to that I would say- good luck!

You´ve made all 5x5 balls by hand right? How mant balls for the Ball in a Cube have you made so far? And are you going to make more, or just a limited number?

I have only made one mini 5x5x5 Ball. Like I said on the link it was a stepping stone to creating the Ball in a Cube. Once I had one made I cast the relevant pieces for the Ball in a Cube.
I am not sure if I will make any more Mini 5x5x5 Balls but will probably have a few Ball in Cubes available on this forum and/or eBay sometime in the future

Just one 5x5 ball? And I twisted it Yoohoo!! : But does this mean you manufacture every baal piece individually? Beacause I thought you made one ball all together, and then swap some pieces. I thought making one complete ball out of a 4x4 was easier than some pieces individually. With the straight and lineair peices of the hexaminx I could imagine, but rounded pieces individually?
