Well guys I promised I'd do it when I built my mastermorphix a couple of months ago and it's just about done!!!! The entire mechanical part of the puzzle is finished. Just a few adjustments need to be made to relieve lockups. Stickering it is going to be a pain but people have gone through worse stickering jobs so I will persevere!

I made it from my eastsheen 5x5x5 which I deemed worthy to get cut up once I got my v-cube 5.
Every single one of the cube's 98 pieces (is that right? 98?) had to be modified in some way and the entire puzzle was made from 7 different types of extension pieces casted many times. I'm ecstatic right now because this is my first in depth mod that I have completed and it was a great excercise in molding/casting. I hope you all like it! I will post a video when it is completely done but I couldn't help showing it now that I've just finished the last extension. The puzzle is heavy-right around 2 pounds-but I think the weighty feeling is kinda nice.

I'm going to call the puzzle the Ultramorphix. I like that name but if anyone can come up with a better one I'm very open to ideas. By the way, please tell me if you would like me to add corners.

A few years damaging my fingers and hands (and on a couple of occasions, close calls to career ending injuries), I've learned a few things about avoiding damaging what I have. But I'm only human so I'll continue to earn my scars.

Good progress, btw. turning the 5x5x5 into a tetrahedron is no small feat.

Ultramorphix sounds like a great name, Professormorphix would be an alternative but I'm not so sure about that.

nope. I'm gonna do it all with sandpaper. It's going to be work but the end will certainly justify the means.

You'd be well advised to invest in a few files instead; the end result will be better, and it will save you a huge amount of Time and effort.

But nothing is better than having a great hand made work of art =D

Well it took a little while but it's completely done now! It came out looking great I think. After I sanded it down some and lowered the tension on the core, it began to turn wonderfully-just about as well as the original eastsheen. I'm a little afraid to mix it though because of how crazy it gets very quickly.
If you are going to post a comment, please just answer a couple questions too. First, how do you think I should sticker the corners? (I decided to not build the corners up to a point). Second, tell me whether or not you would be interested in owning (but not necessarily buy) this puzzle. If there's enough interest out there, I may sell it. I hope you guys like it! I'll post a video when the corners are stickered.

Very well done! Not sure what you mean by stickering the corners. You appear to have already done this. Unless you mean the large triangle area on top?

I'd add a single large sticker.

The large triangle area is in fact the corners of the 5x5x5!(Four of them anyway). the other four are the small triangles in the center of each face. I was thinking your idea for stickering would be easier but then orientation doesn't matter.

Another incredible puzzle. You guys never cease to amaze me with the complexity of these things!

very impressive. id recommend doing some touching up if you plan on selling it. about 2 hours of work would double the value of this puzzle

Nice work, but I have to agree that a bit of editing will make this puzzle a lot better. IMO adding the large pyramidal corners instead of leaving them truncated would add a lot to the puzzle.

But besides that, this is awesome. I can't imagine a scrambled state, you might need to use a few more dimensions than the 3 or 4 have right now.

Danny, I love it. its a great looking feat you did. I love the added layers from using the 5x5. I will say, however, that this puzzle needs alot of cleanup still. the surfaces are quite bumpy and could use some heavy sanding. however I'm still impressed at your attempt. good work!

Thanks Drew! This was my first in depth attempt at casting (aside from the very beginning of the teraminx). the bumpy ones are mostly the first half or so of the pieces I casted. Then I redid the molds using your method and the rest came out a million times better. Now that I'm fairly adept at casting, I'll try to finish the teraminx too!

I would add the triangle tips tho, to finish the pyramid shape! maybe it makes it harder to play with, but surely would looks nicer when solved!

and some cleaning up would help on the overall looks! (the strickers helped alot tho)

Thank you all for the great comments. I decided to scramble this thing and let me tell you: I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I built it!
It sure is a monster to solve and it took me the better part of two days to do it (especially all that center orientation). Very fun though and it turns great!

Hey guys. I finished this thing up not too long ago. I cleaned it up some and worked on the internals to make it turn better. I also stickered the truncated corners in a tri-color patter so orientation is a must.
I got a video up so you can see. I will most likely be selling it on ebay soon so watch this thread, the marketplace or the video description for the ebay link in the coming week.
