Made a master cubeoctahedron...and in the process found inspiration and the means to make a Edges only 4x4 (not really there are centers)/ cornerless 4x4. Here are some pictures. The edges only 4x4 isn't complete because i was wondering how i should sticker it. just cut the sticker to fit the extended piece or should i fill the gap between the extended piece and the actual piece and apply a larger sticker over the entire thing? Keep in mind it was just thrown together, i plan to redo the latter of the two cubes.

I think you should definitely fill all the gaps, sand it smooth, paint, then sticker. It will take longer but the final product will be better.

Both sticker schemes have their advantages, but in keeping with the tradition of edges-only cubes I think you should fill the gap and sticker over it. I think it's visually important to interrupt the regular seams, just as the 3x3 edges-only does.

It would have less visual impact if you merely put triangular stickers on the extensions, but it would still be very attractive.

I have never seen anything of that sort as far as the second puzzle goes. I look forward to seeing which direction you take it.
