How does this happen? What sorcery is this? Did you use circles that turn with the deep cut or some other magic? Great design BTW.

The only thing I can imagine right now is that the "inner" parts of the edge pieces stay in position. The "outer" edge parts must be locked into the outer layers somehow. Cool stuff!

Edit: Totally wrong. I somehow did not see the last picture.

First of all, very cool design ! The secret is the rod in the red circle, you can see that the blue part has changed. I guesse there is one corner that determines the movement of all these inner rods. The Problem is that you cant put pencils through the cube an make 2x2 moves.

Edit: Grigr, can you post a picture where only one of the middle layers is twisted? must look realy nice :)

Wow!, it jumbles too?

Thats amazing!. its very clever.

Four important questions:

1) When?
2) Where?
3) How much?
4) When you close your eyes at night Grigr, do you just see a matrix of numbers raining down?

Fascinating design, brave execution! I do not understand what you mean by "jumbling". The puzzle looks doctrinaire to me. What am I missing?

Don't you see the pictures in his last post? You can clearly see that because the pieces switched to a rail they shouldn't be on, the puzzle is no longer able to execute all moves that it can perform in it's base state. I think this is what jumbling does.

Evgeniy and most of the regular visitors to this forum know that the word "jumbling" has a special meaning in the context of twisty puzzles. To me, the photos show a doctrinaire puzzle and not a jumbling one.

The way that this is a doctrinaire puzzle, which doesn't have overhang bandaging, but turns through unexpected cuts, and then causes blocked moves, matches the context of what was originally implied by the term `jumbling`.

It does appear to be able to get into states that a normal 4x4x4 can't reach. But I think I'd need to see a video to be able to tell what is going on here.

Look at a 3x3x3. You can turn a R face by 60 degrees and then go and turn a L face by 90 degrees. Even though the R face is blocking most other moves in this state that doesn't mean a 3x3x3 jumbles. Something similiar may be going on here. It almost appears individual cubies can be moved to an extent independantly of the other 3 cubies in the slice layers. Not sure this is a feature... or a flaw... I guess it depends on what it was designed to do.

But I haven't seen enough to be able to say this jumbles. Though I'm not sure its doctrinaire either.

Carl

I can't say for sure what is going on in the Void 4x4x4, but that 5x5x5 isn't what I'd call jumbling. I don't believe the cuts that allow you to make those turns line up exactly. They may be close or the puzzle may have alot of play to it. But you've foced cuts that don't line up to allow a turn to be made. To me I'd call that fudging. Though fudging isn't one of the main classifications of puzzles and that 5x5x5 isn't in what appears to be a doctrinaire state. I think that puts it in the bandaged catagory... but that leaves a very good question... how would one unbandage this into a doctrinaire puzzle?

It's a fortuitous Mixup property. Where, on the 333 the Mixup doesn't block moves, on this it does. I too would like to see a video and greater analysis of both.

I am pretty sure that my weird 5x5x5 is doctrinaire, as all turns possible in the cubic state are possible in every shape shifted state. It is definitely fudged.

If that is true... I don't have one to play with so can't verify... then it is a Shape Mod and not a Bandaged puzzle. To make the doctrinaire puzzle just make it in the shape of a sphere.

I wasn't going to tell anyone this, but my void 4x4x4 is proportioned like a Mixup 4x4x4 so that it can do mixup moves.
I am surprised to see that yours does that too
Great design!
