Hi Twisty Puzzles fans,

Offset Cube looks like a squashed 2x2x7 puzzle, shaped to a cube. However, the axes of the inner 1x2x2 have an offset by half of the width of a piece. Because of this, pieces can change layer while playing the puzzle. This makes the puzzle harder to solve.

Watch the YouTube video.
Buy the puzzle at my Shapeways Shop.
Read more at the Shapeways Forum.
Check out the photos below.

Enjoy!

Oskar

P.S. Photos of the mechanism here, see also this video.

Edit: I also like the sticker pattern and how you made a groove between them

I played with this in Japan.
Sadly I do not remember the discussion we had about it.

Oskar, you genius! I struggle to figure out how this works from the video, let alone being able to solve, or conceive and design such a puzzle from scratch!

Oskar, you only show it doing slice moves, no rotating one end relative to the other. Are those moves not allowed?

End rotations work only in a non-offset state, see here. Quiz question: why is that?

WOW!
There are some twisty puzzles that I see made and I think to myself, "Yeah, that's pretty clever, but it's just a new shape." or "That's neat, I thought of that but would have no idea how to make it and here you've made it."

Then there is this puzzle "I never would have thought to do this in a million years let alone figure out how to make a working version!!" very well done!!

a) the pieces would derail without modification to the design that would either alter structural integrity or aesthetic qualities.

b) those moves would change the amount of pieces in each of the four columns, while the current design always maintains the same amount.

Hi Twisty Puzzles fans,

I made an improved version of the Offset Cube. The original version has one of the middle pieces attached to the core in order to keep the core aligned. Norman Diamond suggested that it would be better to have one of the end pieces attached to the core, as that would result in one bandaging less. So I did.

Watch the YouTube video of the improved version.
