Hello TwistyPuzzles! I've been a lurker here for some time now, probably around 4 years (dang) when I got my first Rubik's cube. But I've finally decided to join.
So recently I was looking into possibly buying Drewseph's Mini Gigaminx, buuut just yesterday I saw TomZ's Mini Starminx and now I'm incredibly torn between the two. I'm your stereotypical poor college kid, so I can't afford both (of course common sense would say I can't afford either, but shh...). Eventually I'd like to own both, but as for which i should add to my collection first I'm not sure. What holds me back from the gigaminx is its very large price tag. The starminx is cheaper by far, even for a fully assembled puzzle, but on the gigaminx I wouldn't have to worry about tiny stickers wearing off, since I'd definitely be carrying either one around with me a looot...
What I'd like to ask is does anyone own the Mini Gigaminx? Is it worth spending so much on? Or do you think it'd be better to purchase the Starminx first? Right now I'm personally leaning toward the Starminx for its uniqueness as a puzzle not already in mass production and since it'd be a new challenge. It's also a heck of a lot cheaper. But I'm not sure, any thoughts from more experienced collectors?

I would personally go with the Starminx, as it's not mass produced and it's cheaper. I do plan to buy the Starminx in the future, but for general interests the Mini Gigaminx doesn't appeal to me that much. Sorry Drew!

You shoud deffinatly buy TomZ's Mini Starminx! Mf8 is about to put their Gigiminx to the market, and I think it wil be quite cheap. So you can either get The mini gigaminx, or Starminx and Gigaminx at the same price

Hi there!
Personaly, I would go for the Starminx first, the gigaminx is already a mass produced puzzle so you are bound to find more giga's than star's. I know you will get both, thats the addict in me talking.... but first go for the Starminx.

If you have the money for the mini gigaminx, I would recomend getting it first. Because you plan on getting both puzzles it will be more easy to find the money for the cheaper one in the near future.

Hm, that's a good point. The thing I really like about the Gigaminx is the colored pieces versus the stickers of the Starminx. Both being such small puzzles and easy to carry around, I'd feel better with the Gigaminx in my coat pocket knowing there are no stickers to fall off and such. And if I just got the DIY of the Starminx (which I probably would to save the money) I'd have to make my own stickers (or tiles perhaps). The time it would take to do that is a bit of a deterrent I'll be honest. I'm lazy... Although, fully assembled would still be forty bucks cheaper than the Gigaminx, not to mention I would then have to buy the dyes or markers to color the pieces on top of that. But another issue I think is the quality of the puzzle. I looked at the videos for each and you can very plainly see that the Starminx turns far more smoothly than the Gigaminx, which seemed to catch more often than not and looked difficult to turn. I guess my qualm over it all is the price of the Gigaminx. The ten separate orders just seems like an excuse to drive up the price to me. You're paying $270+the price of coloring materials for a miniature puzzle that's already in mass production for around $45. $225+ just for the novelty is a bit steep. If both puzzles were the same price I'd buy the Gigaminx for certain. Maybe even if it was just a bit more expensive. But $150 is a big difference.

you can buy the starminx DIY kit and get the stickers from Dr.sticker.. it will save you a lot of time and money.
I suggest that you buy the starminx, much more unique than the gigaminx and much cheaper =)
