Hi! I have a 4x4x4 cube, but one center piece is broken. The cube is quite old, although I do not know exactly how old . It was included in a collection I purchased from ebay a few months ago. It has white opposite blue and fluorescent orange stickers, but it doesn't have a rubik's logo. The weight of the cube is 233.5 grams. I might be interested in selling it for parts. Maybe someone could help me identify this, please?

It is most likely a rubik's, meffert's, or cleffert's. If you take it apart you will learn more. If it is a rubik's I have tons of them. PM if you need one.

I believe it was manufactured around the 80's , it is definitely not a new one. I attach some more pictures, sorry for the low quality of the 1st pic, I couldn't take a better one.

That would be a question for some of the more major collectors on the forum. I just know it's the older type rubik's. edit: There are 2 newer versions of the rubik's 4x4. The retooled one has holes in the core that the other one doesn't. The re-retooled one has these weird centers and hooks on the edges. The re-retooled has the same core as the retooled

I've got extra piece from the retooled cube. (So between the older & the newer ones) I'm entirely sure if it'll fit, but it looks like it. I could send you 1 for $3.
Send me an email to memyself3.14 at gmail.com if you're interested.

As many have suggested, this is an older Rubik's 4x4x4. They were quite hard to get in late 1980s and early 1990s. I found a few in Japan, and they had that same color scheme (white opposite blue). Chances are it is a bit tight even after lubrication, right? Mine are.

Dave I could say that it is tight, although one of the white center pieces is broken -I checked that by turning the opposite (blue) layer. I haven't used any lubricant nor I have cleaned the cube, so I am not really sure how the turning of this cube could actually be. I bought this cube from a nice seller residing in the UK -it was a quite big collection consisting of old puzzles and many of them were duplicates. I would like to know if it is rare because I would be interested in selling it (either if I fix it or for parts - I do not know what it would worth more), as I already own a Rubik's Master cube (IDEAL 1982).

if you go to cubesmith's parts page you can see the difference in the cores... yours is an older one... which from what I've read is the better of the two designs save for it pops more than the newer one, but locks up less. http://www.cubesmith.com/Parts.htmAs far as stickers go... I'd have to say it was re-stickered at some point as a cube that old, with that much wear... should have stickers equally worn... that one's stickers look like they are in darn good shape.

th30d wrote: dfgged wrote: This is the old type rubik's 4x4 Is it an earlier version than the ones with the ITC 1982 logo? No, it is certainly not older than the ITC 1982 models. The parts are equivalent to Cube 3 in the thread at viewtopic.php?p=78428#p78428Matching details (including some not listed in the thread): - Weight is approximately 231 grams, versus less than 215 for earlier generations.
- The core is black with black screws
- Edges are molded in 1 piece (not 2) with a hollow gate
- Corners are molded in 1 piece (not 2)
- Colors and color-scheme match the 1982 cubes
This could make it a second-generation 1982 'Hong Kong' cube. It might also be a 1982 'Korea' cube, since I haven't checked the specifications on those yet. It was probably re-constructed from two broken cubes, a common occurrence with Rubik's Revenge puzzles from 1982. That would explain the missing logo and copyright, which I've encountered many times before. NOTE: The linked thread doesn't include ITC's 'Korea' and 'Taiwan' cubes. I've subsequently obtained an ITC 1982 'Korea' cube, but I still don't have an ITC 1982 'Taiwan' cube or even proof that it existed. (Taiwan certainly produced Revenge cubes later, but I haven't seen any 1982 specimens yet.)

Thank you all for your replies and especially VeryWetPaint for the link! I hadn't read that thread! I don't know if the cube has been restickered or fixed at any point of time, however, it is indeed in very good condition.
