Oh, and I bought a KO super floppy cube from Cube4You a bit more than a month ago. Oh well, I'll buy this one too then!

I too bought a KO. However, all of the puzzles on my 'to buy' list are going to wait as I'll buy this as soon as I have the money to buy one from an English site - I don't have any money for puzzles right now.

If my understanding is correct, those with the KO super floppy will soon find out that the KO and the genuine do not work the same way.

The KO is based on photos, but does not inherit the true designed behaviour.

I knew Okamoto would release this. I never bought the KO cause I had faith that he would produce his own original one. Plus, it's no longer called the Super Floppy, it's called 'Scrambled' Cube. I'm not sure that is the official name. I just used google translate.

The puzzle's name is written in katakana, Japanese phonetic characters which approximate the sounds of foreign sounds. The name is an approximation of the English phrase "scramble cube".

Since the name doesn't include Japanese words, there was nothing for Google to translate for you

The Super Floppy is protected by copyright, in the same way that a book can be protected by copyright. If I took *insert the name of a book you like here* and left out some chapters then that book would still infringe on the IP rights of the original author.
Assuming Shakespeare hasn't been dead for over 70 years, the phrase "To be or not to be" would be protected by copyright. Now if I had T-Shirts made with the text "Two beer or not two beer" that would most likely not infringe on his IP because it is a creative adaptation of the original work.

In the case of the Super Floppy, I don't think the changes the KO company made are creative enough to make it fair use.

Clearly it is a copied puzzle design that just wasn't as good of a copy as it could have been. One might argue this mechanism difference was purposeful, but I don't think it could be made with much credibility.
So we have a copied idea resulting in a mostly identical puzzle but with a slightly different result. I don't think this very likely unintended difference removes the stigma of the original theft of concept from the IPP puzzle of the year.

I disagree with calling the one currently available a KO.

We don’t consider the V-Cube 5 to be a KO of the Eastsheen 5x5x5 which we also don’t consider to be a KO of the Rubik’s 5x5x5. They are all the same puzzle, 5x5x5 cubes which for the most part look identical on the outside. But the mechanisms on the insides are not the same. The same with the mass produced Gigaminx and Teraminx. We don’t consider them to be KOs of the hand made originals.

So with that in mind I can’t see how we can consider this to be a KO. Sure, it looks almost the same from the outside but clearly the mechanism is not the same. It doesn’t even function 100% the same way, as has been pointed out. Whoever designed it clearly had no real knowledge of the mechanism and designed their own. Unique mechanisms for identical puzzles have been allowed here.

Wow that's a cool one! I need to get my hand on one of those, and I'm still missing a tower cube too.

I love how all the Okamoto puzzles have the same colorscheme, which is different from the regular one. When I just had the Void Cube, it just didn't fit in with all of the others. But now that there are already four different ones, it's much more of a collectable series.

In my opinion, this situation is different. The Eastsheen cubes were designed as an improvement of the previous mechanisms, while the Chinese Super Floppy is clearly intended to be a copy of Okamato's Super Floppy.

We have yet another topic that is turning into a KO one, but I really want to explain why I think the Super Floppy KO's are real KO's.

You have puzzle mechanisms and concepts. In some cases, the mechanism of a puzzle is the most valuable part (V-Cubes), in other cases the concept (Fisher's Golden Cube). To me, the Super Floppy concept is really innovative and I think that the concept being so innovative, the mechanism is irrelevant to the judgement.
If someone made a Golden Cube with a different Skewb mechanism, it would still be considered a KO. Why should the Super Floppy be any different? They left out a feature that could not be replicated, but to me that's irrelevant. It's clear they were not aiming to innovate by doing that.

But say a Golden Cube was made with a different mech allowed it to turn on four different axises on the first turn then just one, then it wouldn't be. I don't know about either mech, but if they're not the same, and they move differently, then I don't see how it's a KO.
