Okay, I know that Mefferts mass produced the fisher cube, but the thing is, I don't want to wait for a month to get the cube, so I'm thinking about making one. This will also give me some practice with apoxie sculpt. Does anybody know a way to make a good quality fisher cubeout of a crappy store bought cube???

If the turining is bad, the finished cube will have worse turning (due to my expierence) depending on the thickness of the plastic. If it has 1mm thick plastic, the finished cube won't turn very well due to the very small edges on it. I don't suggest spending any time on cheep cubes to mod them because a good cube will always give a good turning finished cube.

Well, now store boughts are a lot better, so I'm gonna stick with the ideaof using that, but for bigger pricier mods, I'll use your advice and use a better quality cube.

what kind of store bought? rubik's brand? or the cheap kind where they use as little plastic as possible?

Rubiks Brand. Give me some credit.

I f your cube is a rubik's brand, it has no way of changing the tention by taking off the caps, so don't bother with that, I have found that sticking a few playing cards between the layers and leting it sit for a few months like that is the best way to change the tention of the cube.

Making a good quality puzzle starting from a crappy puzzle is the problem here, and is separate from the Fisherizing part.

I have made the mistake of starting from a poor quality puzzle (a Chinaminx, to make the first Kilominx) and it isn't worth it. The work to try to make a junk puzzle good is far more than the cost to just buy a better starting point. I was lazy and had two Chinaminxs and Meffert was out of stock of quality Megaminxes, and I paid for it. I would have done better starting with a PVC minx.

So using a junk cube for practice is a great idea (cheap if you mess up) but realize that what you get out of it will not likely be satisfying, even if you do an awesome job on your mod.

Thanks for the advice, Dave. When I do bigger mods, I will keep in mind what you said.

I would use sand to eat up the interior of the cube. after that you can use any of the lubricant that any sane cuber would tell you to never touch to wear out and smooth the inside your store bought cube. After you wash everything out and lube it with silicone it should turn nicely, but it will never cut corners well.
